Guest guest Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 Dear , In April, we had our second son. Our first is a CHARGEr and is almost 3 years old. When I was 5 months pregnant, they did the level II Ultrasound and a fetal echocardiogram. The tests showed no irregularities. That didn't eleviate my fears or those of my husband. Even when I had to be induced at 40 weeks and delivered a 9 pound 1 ounce " perfect " baby boy, our fears were still not reduced. Only after X-rays and an echocardiogram were performed were we able to breathe. Even now holding my healthy baby boy, I look to see if anything is wrong with him. Sometimes I catch myself waiting for the shoe to fall in anticipation that something might be wrong and the doctors missed it. We knew that even if something were wrong with Denny, we would love him and care for him. Now that he is here and doing so well, I thank God every day for this special blessing too. He is doing so well that he will be almost the same size as his brother by Christmas. Tanis is 2 1/2 and only 26 pounds and such a " Shorty " . He is doing well though. We are getting ready for a round of referrals and doctor appointments as I mentioned in my introductory letter. My prayers and hopes are with you and your family for your good news and for your ei. Guest guest Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 I have not lost a child. I have 3 daughters, will be 7 in August, my CHARGEr will be 4 in September, and Emma will be 2 in October. 's first 1 1/2 years were hell - she was very sick and in the hospital much of the time. I found out I was pregnant with Emma when was vomiting most of her waking hours--it was quite a shock. Now, Emma is a little pistol! She completes our family and is unlike my other two kids! When I was pregnant I had level 2 ultrasounds and a fetal echo and we watched her very closely. Fortunately we were very luck and she was huge (9 lbs 7 oz at birth.... was almost 10 months old before she weighed that much), healthy and happy. Emma has allowed our family enjoy a healthy baby and even now I am amazed at how cute and what a blessing she is! It was such a blessing to have a healthy child to hold and nurse and bring home! I hope you have a wonderful experience with this pregnancy and I can appreciate of your fears. Please keep us posted and let me know if I can do anything for support. Guest guest Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 , My first child died at birth from a rare delivery complication. Grieving him was very hard. When we got pregnant again 9 months later I finally began to heal. There was always that nagging concern that something could go wrong with this pregnancy too, but I was so happy to be pregnant again. People would say things like, " It would be like lightning striking twice for it to happen again. " This didn't help me, because I felt if it happened once it could happen again. My obstetrician was great and understood my concerns, so he did a little mini ultrasound in his office every visit, so I could see that this baby was still alive and well. Just that little reassurance helped me make it through feeling very positive. I also wrote in a journal all my joys and concerns during that time. I hope that this pregnancy goes smoothly for you and you can enjoy this time with your precious baby to be. Guest guest Posted June 22, 2004 Report Posted June 22, 2004 Congratulations . I would like to say enjoy your pregnancy, but I know that you will have lots of anxieties. We had no 2 when no1 ( - CHARgE) was 2 years old. We had met with the geneticists to discuss the likelihood of no 2 having CHARGE and although they told us that it was no higher than anyone else in the population, we were still not convinced as at the time it felt as though the likelihood was low in the first place but was still born with CHARGE. In the end, we decided that we had managed to come to terms with her diagnosis (much harder for you I know since you lost ei). We thought that we had managed the process despite no warning and that we were wiser and would handle whatever came our way. Elly was born 2 years ago with no complications. Besides the 2 statutory scans, I had a foetal cardiology scan at week 18 and fortnightly growth scans from week 28 as was born very small. Pleased to say that all is still well with Elly (and come to that despite the usual CHARGE things). Hope all goes well with your pregnancy. How is ei's twin by the way? Sorry, can't remember his name. Look after yourselves on the 28th when things could be tough. Please do use this site for support as I do recall that lots of people have had totally healthy subsequent children. Sending lots of positive thoughts your way...... Guest guest Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 , I have 3 kids. I have an older daughter age 9, age 7 who is my CHARGER, and andra age 5. The decision to have a 3rd after was interesting. My first reaction after MIchael was NEVER AGAIN. Then I saw how it would always be and and that most of the attention would be on . I wanted to round things out. Then, all I could think about was having another, but was frightened. All I kept imagining was 2 kids with g-tubes. I kept saying, if this was only eats by mouth I'll be fine. To me it was a big risk. But, the risk paid off. I got a healthy girl who has become 's best friend. All three of my kids play and love eachother. 's problem's still interfere sometimes, but family life is more on the normal side. No one could calm me down. I went for every test in the book. I went to the best doctors and hospital. Still, nothing could put me at ease until I saw that baby. As I was laying on the table (I had a c-section) I was asking about ears, nose, hands, finally the pediatrician said to my husband " what's wrong with your wife? " My husband explained and well, after that, andra got the top treatment any baby could get. All the echo cardiograms, hearing tests.. you name it she got it. I think we CHARGE parents kind of go through other pregnancies never taking anything for granted, and it is very normal to feel the way you feel. Just know there are many of us who do have healthy kids as well. Good luck! Debbie Matasker pregnant again Hello All, I took a home test today that says I'm pregnant. Guest guest Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Oh, I repeat all of the possitive notes you're reading. Our first child, now 24, was and is fantastic. After 's birth (our CHaRgeR- I never get that right), we wanted more children. We would have done so with all of the fears you have, but we also faced an Rh factor in a small town with no real support. Enjoy yourself and get the input you need. All best wishes - and I'm really grinning for you because I would have loved to have experienced what you are! Martha Quote

Guest guest Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 hi I am sitting here nursing my new week old baby while writing to you. I think I was more scared with having this baby then I was with the other three in-between my charge child and this one. because when I had wesley I was told that charge only happened in first children and never twice in the same family. well after meeting people on this group I learned that was not correct thinking. it does occasionally happen but it is not common. I took all the extra precautions with her along the way . when the dr said having this test is an option I took it. when they asked if we wanted an in-depth ultrasound or a reg. one we chose in-depth. all of these helped settle little fears along the way but left me with the question if like with wes when she came out we would find things they couldn't tell with her inside. but everything but the Jaunts has turned out just fine with her. I think it takes a lot of reminding yourself to live in the NOW. for example when I was first preg. I had morning sickness a lot more then with my other kids. the dr said if Im sick the baby is doing well. I didn't like being sick but I liked thinking that as far as anything showed at that time the baby was fine. . and if something was to be wrong latter there was nothing to do about it now. so you just go on with how things are now. Now I have a beautiful baby girl who I am sad I dont get to hold more right now but Im very glad for the times I do get to hold and kiss her and that we are home not in a hospital . I hope you are also blessed with a beautifully healthy baby. Guest guest Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 Good luck with your pregnancy. I had two others and one miscarriage after my charger----but we had fertility issues and used donor sperm--however I still worried about the others --just trust that all will be fine and know you are in our thoughts and prayers. maria mom to timmy almost 9 ChARGE, keegan 6 and liam 31/2 wife to pat pregnant again > Hello All, > > I took a home test today that says I'm pregnant.
