Joanne-

I know it's frustrating for you, but I'd say rejoice in Josh's attempts at

eating!! Aubrie wasn't very interested and struggled with chewing and

swallowing. We had to try so hard to get her to attempt to eat. Even

though Josh is not swallowing and " eating " per se, try to enjoy his interest

and encourage him to keep at it. Maybe he'll get it one day and actually

eat! I remember for a long time Aubrie would pocket the icky part of food

inside her lower lip. She'd spit out the " ickies " in a napkin every once in

a while during a meal. What a wonderful thing it was when she could eat

every part of things -- even the " ickies " ! When Josh is chewing, he is

probably swallowing some juices (unless you know that he's drooling it all

over). Even that is a start.

Try to look at his eating behavior as a good thing. Maybe you can at least

get him to keep it to meal and snack times. Just as you would train your

other kids to eat at the appropriate times instead of bothering you for it

all day... But then I allow Aubrie to eat anything anytime because she's so

skinny that she needs all the food she'll take :-)

Good luck-

hi Michele

maybe this is partr of the problem Josh's big brother eats just about *all*

day, not so bad 'cos he'll just go get himself something ... but, for Josh

this isn't as much of an option ... although it has got me thinking ...

maybe i could leave him some food somewhere accessable and (hopefully) get

him to stay in one spot to eat it. Hmmm, the trouble is, i'm worried about

him choking on something, so i'd probably need to be close - hell, who am i

kidding i'm always close LOL :0)

How about putting food that Josh can eat in a low cupboard where he can

reach, and train him to get what he wants - like mushed banana's, or the

indivdual containers of apple sauce. Since you're always nearby you can get

his brother to get you right away if Josh starts acting differently.

Just a suggestion. Sincerely yours; Krista Bach.
