Available online 20 August 2009. Abstract Macrophagic myofasciitis (MMF) is an emerging condition, characterized by specific muscle lesions assessing long-term persistence of aluminum hydroxide within macrophages at the site of previous immunization. Affected patients mainly complain of arthromyalgias, chronic fatigue, and cognitive difficulties. We designed a comprehensive battery of neuropsychological tests to prospectively delineate MMF-associated cognitive dysfunction (MACD). Compared to control patients with arthritis and chronic pain, MMF patients had pronounced and specific cognitive impairment. MACD mainly affected (i) both visual and verbal memory; (ii) executive functions, including attention, working memory, and planning; and (iii) left ear extinction at dichotic listening test. Cognitive deficits did not correlate with pain, fatigue, depression, or disease duration. Pathophysiological mechanisms underlying MACD remain to be determined. In conclusion, long-term persistence of vaccine-derived aluminum hydroxide within the body assessed by MMF is associated with cognitive dysfunction, not solely due to chronic pain, fatigue and depression. ********************************************************** Aluminum Toxicity, F. Bernardo, MD. http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/165315-overview " No known physiologic need exists for aluminum; however, because of its atomic size and electric charge (0.051 nm and 3+, respectively), it is sometimes a competitive inhibitor of several essential elements of similar characteristics, such as magnesium (0.066 nm, 2+), calcium (0.099 nm, 2+), and iron (0.064 nm, 3+). At physiological pH, aluminum forms a barely soluble Al(OH) 3 that can be easily dissolved by minor changes in the acidity of the media.2 Approximately 95% of an aluminum load becomes bound to transferrin and albumin intravascularly and is then eliminated renally. In healthy subjects, only 0.3% of orally administered aluminum is absorbed via the GI tract and the kidneys effectively eliminate aluminum from the human body. It is only when the GI barrier is bypassed, such as IV infusion or there is advanced renal dysfunction, that aluminum has the potential to accumulate. As an example, with intravenously infused aluminum 40% is retained in adults and up to 75% is retained in neonates. " " Aluminum brain concentrations should be lower than 2 & #956; g/g. Neurotoxicology Division, Health Effects Research Laboratory, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Research Triangle Park, NC 27711 " One interpretation of these data is that aluminum acts at multiple sites to displace both Mg2+ and Ca2+, increasing the activity of the Ca2+-ATPase, but disrupting transport of calcium. Christian Datz1, Haas1, Heinrich Rinner2, Friedrich Sandhofer1, Wolfgang Patsch3 and Bernhard weber1,a " Our data provide evidence for a protective role of the C282Y mutation in the HFE gene against iron deficiency in young women and suggest that a more efficient utilization of nutritional iron may have contributed to the high prevalence of the mutation in Caucasian populations. " The present study aimed at producing a chronic model of focal epilepsy in rabbits. In group A (30 rabbits) 0.05 ml alumina gel was injected in the right sensorimotor cortex, while in group B (10 rabbits) normal saline was injected in the same region. The observation period lasted 70 days. All group A animals developed spontaneous focal or focal initiated seizures that continued throughout the study. The rate of seizures varied in different animals. Belen Suárez-Fernándeza, Ana B. Soldadoc, Alfredo Sanz-Medelc, - Vegab, Antonello Novelli1, a, d and M. Fernández-Sáncheza, (1999) " We found that aluminum accumulated both in neurons and astrocytes. After 8–12 days exposure, aluminum caused strong changes in the morphology of astrocytes including shrinkage of cell bodies and retraction of processes. Exposures over 15–18 days reduced astrocytes viability by 50%. " What astrocytes do: " The blood-brain-barrier is comprised of glia cells, primarily astrocytes. A small fraction of the glucose released from capillaries wanders directly to nerves and synapses. However, most is " trapped " in astrocytes and oxidized to lactate by these cells. Lactate goes further into the brain and nourishes the brain's neurons. This seems to be especially important for glutamatergic neurons which comprise much of the brain. The astrocytes also efficiently pick up released glutamate, convert this to glutamine, and send the product back to glutamatergic neurons where it continues to cycle as a neurotransmitter. " (http://www.medbio.info/Horn/PDF%20files/carbohydrate_metabolism.pdf) Astrocytes are the main cells involved in carbohydrate metabolism: " It has been shown with cultured astrocytes that glutamate increases glycogen synthesis in a pathway which still remains to be elucidated. Brain carbohydrate metabolism is thus in many ways similar to liver carbohydrate metabolism. The astrocyte constitutes the main cell implicated in this metabolism. Improvement in our knowledge about brain carbohydrate metabolism should spread the use of brain glucose metabolism in the diagnosis of certain diseases. " (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8043646) ***************************************************************** Tons of references on this, but aluminum messes up the blood, causes anemia, etc. http://tinyurl.com/yfbuq3s ***************************************************************** I'm out of time. Guest guest
This shows more than that. If you took the time to read some science yourself, you would find that our kids share many of the same biological imbalances as people who have Alzheimer's, Down's Syndrome, Diabetes, Parkinson's, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, people who undergo hemodialysis, the list goes on and on. Again, it is not by accident that our society pushes pregnant women to take iron, calcium, and folic acid. They know these are now common deficiencies, why? Aluminum. If you would look below and see that aluminum is very close to the same molecular weight and charge as iron, calcium, and magnesium, you would put together that it is capable of mimicing these minerals in the body and slightly skewing cellular processes enough to cause an avalanche of problems leading to susceptibility to infection. It also leads the body to make some protective genetic changes that aren't at all normal. If you looked further, you would see that aluminum inhibits absorption of folic acid too. Surprise, surprise. If zinc were used in excess in our vaccines, maybe they would be pushing us all to take copper!! These things are NOT coincidential! If you look at the familial factors of susceptibility to autism, there is a metals connection. Therefore, I am not saying the kids' exposure alone is to blame - but it CAN be, especially if we are talking mercury - it also can be the disruption of the balance of minerals over generations that creates the susceptibility and sets our kids up for what happens to them. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > > > > > > > > > My son has been having sleeping problems on a daily basis since 2 years. Guest guest
liz i read and understand plenty of science, again been around these groups almost 7 years. I have not at any time disagreed that AL does damage, I know that it does, nor merucry, the thing I disagree with you on is that ALL kids with autism have metal issues, and that all those with metal issues have autism. and that the ONLY way to undo autism is with chelation. our kids are ALL different and many thing can set them off, many families report it to be vaccinations, ones with OUT metal in them. MMR at no time has ever contained murcury or AL. that has been a tipping point for many, for others I know, espeically older aspies it was all viral or bacterial induced as well. and again if genetics weren't there to make them vulnerable they wouldn't end up that way either. it's a combo of nasty stuff the body can't deal with. the what if games could take up on where ever....if I hadn't given vaccinations when ill, or with tylonal, or had him on folic acid or known about his allergies, or what ever...the fact remains what we are left with is autism and toxic kids and finding out what each of there individual issues are will lead parents to find out how to bring there bodies back in balence and healthy. it's a different journey for all, lets not let parents think that if there journey differs from yours that it's a wrong journey, for some yes it may be chelation. for others it may not. side not I was NEVER pushed to take any of those things when pregnant, and have no fillings, have had fish like 2 times in my life, and my son still has autism. Guest guest
What symptoms of autism are not related to metal toxicity and what causes them? " MMR at no time has ever contained murcury or AL " True, but usually it is given with other vaccinations and usually it wasn't a child's ONLY vaccination ever. I believe the susceptibility to reacting to MMR has a lot to do with the mineral derangement and impaired cellular processes set up by toxic metals. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > My son has been having sleeping problems on a daily basis since 2 years. Guest guest
symptoms for one can be one thing and yet still another for another person.....a rash for example can be from an allergy, a virus, from yeast, from strep, they all have rashes but cause by different things. our kids don't all the have the same symptoms that is my WHOLE point! all our kids are DIFFERENT!!! the part that you can't seem to make peace with! THUS all kids treatments would be different, not making it a one way fits all! again NOT all kids on spectrum have metals issues (we have had many on group now share this about there own kids in the last several weeks of this discussion under several titles now) and I have seem many tests (both hair and porphyrins) of people with out metal issues, I have seen many with out food issues, stool issues, yeast issuse, bacteria issues ect. even though the magority do. they are ALL different kids. i know several families that there are completely linked to LYME. and it went untreated, I know many that were related to strep untreated. many who have had vaccinations (and had no metals in ANY Of there vaccinations,-actually helped threm look up their lot numbers- and they have no fillings, and neither did there moms) why is it you feel the need to think ALL kids are the same? or that all kids can ONLY recover through chelation! it's GREAT that it was something that has worked for you and your family or some friend of yours. how do you excuss kids out there that have recovered WITH OUT IT. and there are, there are some kids who have simply outgrown it even with out biomedical! I just saw a post a few ago with you talking about how you have 2 of you not off the diet and are chelating....so your not yet recovered either. yet you hold on so fast to this, are you trying to convince US or yourself that this is your answer becuase you are trucking so hard at it? Guest guest
Christel, I never argued that their symptoms were all the same. I pointed out that toxic metals are the underlying cause of all the other things. For example, if aluminum takes the place of iron in the body - which it does, iron accumulates in places it doesn't belong (gut, lungs, liver, brain). Bacteria is kept in check in a LOW IRON environment, but when it becomes high, the bacteria thrives. I have personally researched and found that Group A Strep, the kind involved in PANDAS and pseudamonas aeruginosa, a common kind found in biofilm, are two of the bacteria that thrive on iron. Someone on the Autism-Mercury board just told me that if there is mercury in the brain along with iron (both causing oxidative stress), the body will dump the iron because it can't get rid of the mercury. I am not sure yet where the iron goes (I am waiting for the answer), but it would make sense then that until the mercury is out, the iron cannot get back into the cells - at least not to the extent it needs to! Iron is VERY important oxygen transport to cells via hemoglobin. This is why HBOT works and why Vinpocetine works, the brain is starving for better blood flow/oxygen! You are right that not all kids are as severe as others and some seem to recover on their own. I thought my first son recovered on his own honestly and no one, family or school would think he is any different than other kids. Well, they are probably right - but I see things that aren't right. I see some very slight symptoms of mercury poisoning and when I chelate, they are sometimes more pronounced. Like I said before, he lost tics on chelation. Lots of kids are so-called typical, but I question if they really are. Judging from other kids I have seen as a teacher's aide, I am inclined to believe that the problem is much worse than people think...especially boys 8-13, many seem to have sensory issues and learning disabilities. Not everyone has the same APO protein either. People who have APO-E4 cannot excrete mercury at all. People who have APO-E2 and APO-E3 can excrete it to some extent. Being anemic makes you much more susceptible to metals poisoning - when the body is craving iron, it may take up and use aluminum instead. I am with you on the " not one treatment fits all " because people DO have issues other than metals, but I cannot agree that the underlying cause is not metals because it is. What else could cause the mineral imbalances we see in our kids? > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > My son has been having sleeping problems on a daily basis since 2 years. Being anemic makes you much more susceptible to metals poisoning - when the body is craving iron, it may take up and use aluminum instead. I am with you on the "not one treatment fits all" because people DO have issues other than metals, but I cannot agree that the underlying cause is not metals because it is. What else could cause the mineral imbalances we see in our kids?> > > > > > > > >> > > > > > > > > Hi All,> > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > My son has been having sleeping problems on a daily basis since 2 years. Guest guest
liz you completely contridicted yourself Not everyone has the same APO protein either. People who have APO-E4 cannot excrete mercury at all. People who have APO-E2 and APO-E3 can excrete it to some extent. Being anemic makes you much more susceptible to metals poisoning - when the body is craving iron, it may take up and use aluminum instead. so even with that, the underlying cause wouldn't be metals it would be the protiens, which again is my arguement, it DOES have something to do with genes, heck MITO kids are going to more suspetable to damage where a NON mito kid would have more ability ot withstand and detox themself and hold up to more oxidative stress before crashing, those with out MTHFR mutation would be strong with this or that, that can send them backwards, same for complete mutations to COMP ect. it's never just a simple "metal issue" or again ALL recovery stories would be JUST chelation...and simply put that is NOT everyones story! chicken verse egg- again it would mean that ALL people with metal issues would also be autistic again not shown! Re: Ketogenic/Atkins Diet - Sleeping Problems Christel, I never argued that their symptoms were all the same. I have personally researched and found that Group A Strep, the kind involved in PANDAS and pseudamonas aeruginosa, a common kind found in biofilm, are two of the bacteria that thrive on iron.Someone on the Autism-Mercury board just told me that if there is mercury in the brain along with iron (both causing oxidative stress), the body will dump the iron because it can't get rid of the mercury. I am not sure yet where the iron goes (I am waiting for the answer), but it would make sense then that until the mercury is out, the iron cannot get back into the cells - at least not to the extent it needs to! Iron is VERY important oxygen transport to cells via hemoglobin. This is why HBOT works and why Vinpocetine works, the brain is starving for better blood flow/oxygen!You are right that not all kids are as severe as others and some seem to recover on their own. Guest guest
It makes perfect sense if you consider that our kids are not the first generation affected. I would hardly call retention of mercury genetic no matter what APO protein is involved and that is basically what you are saying by calling the protein the underlying cause. That APO protein mutation is likely due to a protective response against some environmental insult. I believe all genetic mutations have environmental causes. Our kids obviously have similar mineral imbalances, if they are not caused by metals, what do you think the explanation is? > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi All, > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > My son has been having sleeping problems on a daily basis since 2 years.
