Guest guest
Hello and welcome to the list. Kay almost 50 year old CHARGEr Im new to the group, need some help (a) Dear All: Let me introduce myself. Im the father of MARTINA. a is a 7 yr old girl (very pretty !!!) who we believe was born with Charge. We think that there is very little experience here (in Buenos Aires, Argentina) and very small number of Charge cases. a has had - A heart operation when she was 20 days old (ductus) now she is very good about heart and doctors dont expect any problems on this. - A retra-ocular tumor operation when she was 2 year old, with good results. and A retina detach operation when she was 3 year old (due to a previos Coloboma). a is profoundly deaf on both ears and goes to a Deaf School and uses ear aids during the day. However it is very difficult for her to learn to read lips and to speak sentences. She is doing well with isolated words. Now, many people (specially school teachers) are recommending us a " Cochlear Implant " . My question is if there is enough experience with cochlear implants for Charge Kids and what are the results, special problems with the operation, and so on. We always want the best for her, and at this moment we dont know if Cochlear implant will really help a. Thanks very much for your support. Best Regards to All. Guest guest
My son had a cochlear implant and he did not get benefit from it for a long time. We put a second one in and they still thought it would not help. But six months later, he started hearing with it and now is able to distinguish many sounds. We are amazed. All the professionals are amazed. We are thrilled but it has been a llong and painful process but now he can hear! Guest guest
Deedee, We have an 8 year old with an implant. We have seen little response. She has the specrta is that what your son had? What doctor did you use? We have discussed this because she is so hard to program. The doctor tells us the new models can program without input from the child. I have a million questions for you. Thanks for your help, Kathi, Mom to Lexi Re: Im new to the group, need some help (a) > My son had a cochlear implant and he did not get benefit from it for a long > time.
