This list gives a little more detail, it shows that pineapple juice is lower

than pineapple itself, and as I understand it, canned pineapple juice will have

less that fresh-juiced because it is " cooked " (I can't completely explain this).

Luke is highly sensitive and tolerates the canned juice, watered down about 1/10

fine, several times a day:

http://users.bigpond.net.au/allergydietitian/fi/salicylates-list.html Also, I'd

put carrots in the moderate category, he handles them fine after a single

serving but if I were to give them every single day he'd start to react

gradually, make sense? HTH<

Is pineapple phenolic?

Hi! I'm curious to know, for those of you that have to implement a

low-phenol SCD, how many of you are able to use pineapple? I've seen

several phenol-content lists, and one says it's low-phenol while

another says it's high. We can't seem to move beyond pears, but only

one of my daughters can eat pears (for the other one her lips dry and

crack then bleed the longer she's on pears). I wanted to use a

little homemade pineapple juice for their supplements. Given my

migraines, I have to follow a low-phenol diet too, and I've found I

can tolerate pears and pineapple without any problems. Apples seem

to have a lower phenol content, but I start to feel a headache coming

on if I eat them. Also, same question for carrots...one list says

it's low, the other says moderate to high. Any help would be very

much appreciated! Thanks!

Yep, that was us. I see all the reactions you list here. A gross infraction,

just something really high and too much of it, will bring on the just crazy

behaviors, slamming himself against a wall, the reaching to be held but

screaming at us not to touch him, no sleep, meltdowns, red cheeks and ears, etc.

A gradual build up will bring the irritability, hyperactivity, tantrums,

inflexibility, increase in stimmy stuff, etc. And on the pineapple juice, it's

Dole in a can. I literally water it down like 1/10, just enough to give a tiny

bit of flavor since he's " anti-water " unless literally dying of thirst.

I remember you, too, by the way! Now I better go make dinner, no small task.

Is Pineapple Phenolic?

Hi ! I think I remember reading some of your posts back in

January about phenols at just about the time we were discovering the

girls' phenol issues. I remember someone posting that their child

would hold his arms out and asked to be held then would scream " don't

touch me! " (Was that you?) With my 10 y.o. the reactions are usually

crying and sobbing and difficulty falling asleep. I think she has

the whole serotonin being converted to the psychodelic Bufotenin

deal. My 8 y.o. is more red cheeks, night wakings, and possibly some

irritability. Both girls tend to have pee accidents on days that

they get high phenol foods. How about your child? What types of

reactions do you see? The carrot explanation is very similar for us

too...if more than one serving then we start to see a reaction (plus

their skin turns orange). We did Sara's diet for a short while

(about the 3rd month of SCD) and I think we may go back to that

because I found it was the first time that they didn't have a hard

coating of plaque on their teeth since going on SCD. Since the

carrots seem to tax their PST enzyme anyway, might as well stop the

carrots and take that factor out of the picture I suppose. Just wish

it didn't mean taking away one of the few foods they can " tolerate. "

Hi Rose,

Dole pineapple juice has been given the thumbs up by Elaine. I have

only seen it in a can - unrefrigerated. Elaine does not recommend

juice in boxes - tetra pak juices.
