Guest guest
: Mag Sulfate can be used to stop contractions but it doesnt' always work. If they gave you pit to induce, Mag won't do diddly to stop contractions. It may slow them down but won't stop them. My Doctor explained to me when I went on it that it might not stop my contractions, in which case she was prepared to deliver my baby. Thank goodness it worked. Well, I would say I had it then. I was in for IV's 5 times I think, then admitted for 4 days and lost 5 lbs. Not a good thing when you are 30 weeks pregnant!! I must admit, it was really difficult to be sick, pregnant, mom of three already, and preparing to move to a different state right after birth!! Could have been stress!! Guest guest
Wow, and I was in great fear when I had to start giving our diabetic dog a shot once a day. Now I'm used to it. But an IV. I wonder if I could hit the vein. I'd probably go right thru it. All the nurses who have tried to hook me up at the hospital have had a hell of a time. My veins run and hide. I admire you!! S. mom to 5. Guest guest
Sure is amazing the things us mothers go through for our babies isn't it! What is even more sad is that if we had to go back....we would do it all over again! Guest guest
I had magnesium sulfate as well, but, I didn't have it to stop contractions..I had it because my blood pressure went so high with the pre-eclampsia I had. I felt dizzy when I was on it. I was on the magnesium sulfate and had to be induced when my son was born. It was terrible. I felt sick, I was swollen, and I was being induced all at once. It was horrible. I was on the Magnesium Sulfate for a while after he was born to keep my blood pressure down as well. I don't think it is to stop contractions....otherwise...I think that the two would have cancelled each other out when I delivered. Guest guest
I didnt' have to have a catheter with my mag sulfate....i didn't have to do breathing exercises either...just made me a little woozy. Maybe they gave you more than they gave me?? I Re: Does anyone have this happen? >From: CPMbusy@... > > > > ><<What does it do that it's so bad? Guest guest
Isn't it a pain.... you're dehydrated... they have to hydrate you... so they need a site for an IV.... then they blow (the veins) because they can't tolerate the stress due to the dehydration.... I hear ya!! I had a sore spot from 7 weeks until I had (full-term) in my left forearm from getting stuck so much! that's why I had a picc line put in.... they couldn't keep calling the IV team to get my veins. And I have good veins normally The Chudzik's DANA, HILDA & MARIA Re: Does anyone have this happen? >From: CPMbusy@... > > > > ><<Really, really, REALLY bad morning sickness ... more like " all day " vomiting >to the point where some moms need to be hospitalized due to dehydration.>> > >I had home health care during my pregnancy with Nick because of hyperemisis. >I had a heparin lock and at night I would hook myself up to an iv bag while I >slept. Guest guest
I had not eaten in 3 weeks when I finally was admitted into the hospital. All the other times I was in OB triage getting fluids and meds... they tried reglan (which I will never have again!) and about 3 others. It sucked!
