Guest guest
Wow, had no idea Ontario didn't cover strips. They cover insulin pumps for children but not test strips? That seems wrong to me! Here in BC strips are covered as long as your doctor writes in and says you need them and how many you need a month. I also have insurance benefits through work that I use to claim things the province doesn't cover. I'm looking into whether they will cover a continuous glucose monitoring system at the moment. Jen Re: gglucos readers. Jen, at least in Ontario strips are not covered by the provincial health plan. However, if you have insurance through work, strips are often covered, as they are on the plan that and I have. We don't know that strips ordered from the States would be covered, but since they cost less than the strips for the nonaudio meter that I'm using now, chances are that they will pay for the imported strips. Hope so anyhow. Larry Internal Virus Database is out-of-date. Checked by AVG. Guest guest
Hi, yes, Ontario does cover strips, but not if they are purchased from out of country! Guest guest
Hmmm, I'm not sure how you are able to get strips covered by the Ontario health plan. I do know that my wife has been a type 1 for nearly 20 years and has never had strips covered by the province. During any time when she was not covered by insurance through work, strips were an out of pocket expense. Now that I'm buying strips, they are paid for by insurance as well. And of course if they were covered by the povincial plan, our insurance company would not cover them. But if the province cover strips for you, I guess you're one up on me. I'm glad that works for you. Guest guest
You're right, there is that option. I would love to see it extended to everyone who is on the Ontario health plan. Larry
Guest guest
If you are covered only by the provincial health plan then strips are your own responsibility. It doesn't seem right to me either, but there it is. Larry >> Re: gglucos readers. >>> >>> Jen, at least in Ontario strips are not covered by the provincial health >>> plan.
