i think ASD kids tend to be really good looking, fabo eye lashes ect....I know ours won a beautiful baby contest, and some other modeling awards and was wanted as the pampers baby when he was 2 and modeled in chicago for papdaskis (sure I am spelling that wrong...not my gift snicker.....)

This might be a silly question

I've been asked so many questions and filled out so many papers. I notice though the one question I'm always curious about is "do people consider your child extremly good looking"? Does anyone know why this question is relevent in anyway? Just curious....

This sounds conceited I no,but I have 3 boys and they are all extremely good

looking my child with autism has dark brown eyes silky brown hair and long full

eyelashes, and my other 2 look similar except with blue and green eyes, one has

blonde hair. I cannot go anywhere without being complemented on how gorgeous

they all are,all Gerber babies. Ive never seen myself,3 brothers who are so

gorgeous!

That is so funny/weird. Jimmy has these amazing blue eyes, and the longest

eyelashes ever (my husband and I do not have either)...and everyone used to say

he looks like a gerber baby...People always comment he is such a " pretty " child.

I just chalked it up to a good gene pool...heh heh! (or I thought they were

being especially nice because he was acting like a wild animal.)

Krassi,

that does not make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. ;)

I forget who wrote it, but sometimes the way we " see " the problem, IS the

problem...

I think we need to shift that thinking into

" these kids are brilliant, and therefore, good looks is just part of package. I

mean, who wouldn't want eyelashes like that! Smart and Beautiful " or

" they don't have to talk much, because they use mental telepathy as a more

efficient form of communication, " or

" They spin because it's fun, and you lack fun in your life (or the fun gene),

and therefore, you don't spin - because your DNA is damaged, " or

" he isn't interested in you, because maybe you aren't interesting or lack

interest, " (I actually said that *sarcastically* at one point -- when blasted

with " he isn't interested in typical things like engaging people. " -- you know,

it really didn't go over well, but it definitely made them change the

phraseology.

I'm sure I have more up my sleeve! hahah....

For my brother, it's hard to watch other people " assess " him, as they don't know

him or have spent the time to get to know him. And how easy it is to make an

assessment within the first two minutes of meeting someone...

So...Krassi, no shrinking...use humor when it looks bleak...it keeps us all

going. :)

Ours literally looks like a cherub/angel - blonde, big beautifully shaped blue

eyes, full pouty lips, etc.

I have almost black hair and brown eyes and my husband is also a brunette.

We were told that he was susceptible because of the " fair " gene.

Yes! It is true that our kids tend to be quite beautiful. Mine with his low

muscle tone was very much a little soft gorgeous cherub when he was a baby.

Mother of Mark, 15, recovered and now 'still' quite handsome!imo as his mommy!

My daughter has such beautiful eyelashes and if she has her eyes fully

opened her lashes touch her eye brows. She is 31 and typical. My grandson

who is ASD has the same long lashes but she is not the mom. I think they

were inherited also. But, no matter where they came from I am jealous,

because I have to use mascara and my daughter never had to use the stuff.

Christel,

Can you elaborate alittle more about the eyelash length mercury connection?

I've heard this said before too...not sure if autistic kids being good looking is relevant...there are some very good looking NT kids too.

I have another question, how many of parents have had kids in low percentile as far as growth? My son is thin and tall. He's been in the 10 percentile for birthweight/ growth since he's been a baby.

My daughter has Asperger's, she's always been around 50% for weight (after she started gaining... slow to gain as a newborn) and 75% for height. She looks healthy, not too skinny and not fat; she always fits her age/size. THE remarkable size as a baby was her head size, it was 99%. I have heard that this is common in autism? As a 2 yr old she had to wear age 5-7 hats LOL!!!

My son seems to be NT (some weird behavior, like mouthing too many things and some toe-walking) but he's the opposite, 50% for height and 75% for weight... he is not chunky, I believe his is muscle? Normal sized head.

I've heard this said before too...not sure if autistic kids being good looking is relevant...there are some very good looking NT kids too.

I heard that too, a long time ago, about how autistic kids tend to be particularly attractive. While my son fulfills that stereotype--compliments from strangers are nearly daily--I've seen plenty of autistic kids who perhaps wouldn't fall into that category. And , I have heard that many asd kids are on the low end of the weight/height percentiles. Our DAN doc said she's noticed the same thing.
