Guest guest
Hi Amy! Long time, no see. " about 10 days ago we started making peanut butter & banana smoothies (pb, bananas, ice, honey, & either pineapple juice or homemade apple juice) to get his vitamins in. the pineapple juice is new. he'll have about 2-3 cups throughout the day = 2 bananas, 4T peanut butter, 3-4 T honey, 2C juice. -->2 cups of juice in a day is a lot of juice, plus 2 whole bananas. Were you giving this much fruit per day before you started these smoothies? " vitamin C, zinc and calcium. " --> One farily easy remedy for constipation is to take a lot of vitamin C. So, that could easily be the culprit depending on how much you are giving him per day. Does the doctor who recommended the vitamin C know that you are giving so much fruit? (not that the fruit is a bad thing... just wondering if he might be getting enough vitamin C from the fruit and maybe does not need a supplement) Jody mom to -5 and -7 SCD 15 months

Guest guest
Amy, I would go back to feeding him what he was eating before you introduced the smoothies. Remove the vitamin C too. Wait a few days and hopefully his stools will straighten out. Then add these items back, but not at the same time and in smaller amounts. That way maybe you can figure out how much he can tolerate. This is one of those " one new thing at a time " situations. I know it's hard, but it makes it easier to figure out the source of a problem. As for another SCD pitch in, I'm game if there are others who are interested. Since it is nice out now, I thought about the Zoo rather than the Museum, but either is fine with me. Guest guest
sounds like a good plan! thanks for confirming some suspicions for me and helping me figure this out. the itching for paddy is new, but i've seen some people mention it as if it's one of the classic symptoms. as i mentioned, he's had some accompanying skin irritations (visible) but i've been chalking it up to playing in the yard. is this a safe one to just keep an eye on? or is this something i need to really worry about? ( i try hard to keep those two groups separate!) keep me posted if you're up for another pitch-in or need help organizing. i know you are quite busy with this site and i'd be happy to help! amy mom to paddy, AS, SCD 4 months > Amy, > > I would go back to feeding him what he was eating before you > introduced the smoothies. > Remove the vitamin C too. > > Wait a few days and hopefully his stools will straighten out. > > Then add these items back, but not at the same time and in > smaller amounts.
