You can get a glucometer free of charge from just about any of the big name

manufacturers. All you have to do is call tell them what you are using it for

and they will usually send it free of charge. The catch is in purchasing the

test strips, that is where the companies are making their profits.

Glucometers are very cheap (around $15 to $50) the problem lies in the test

strips. These can be very pricey ranging from around $45 to $75. Please don't

bombard me with corrections to my pricing, as I stated these are all ball park

estimates. You can get very good deals on glucometers from different pharmacies

with the purchase of the test strips.

place, or if anyone had any ideas to get used equipment in the D/FW area?

More specifically a blood glucose meter.

I was in a situation recently where it would have been very beneficial if I

had one in my medical kit I carry with me, and I want to see if I can find a

reasonably priced one.

any suggestions?

so if I call and state that I am an EMT and would like to carry one in my

personal medical bag, I could get one free of charge?

do the strips have a sensible shelf life? I'm sure 5 would last me a while.

Talk to your local pharmacist or physician, and get in touch with a

pharmacy sales rep. Some years ago everyone in my neighborhood got an

Elite kit from Bayer, because the packaging had expired. The strips

inside were out of date, but the kit included the meter, case, &

instructional video. Apparently Bayer didn't want to pick them up and

repackage them.
