Guest guest
Wow Jody! That was almost like an Instant Message...I got it back so fast! My husband is a physician and I am a psychologist by degree but currently I stay at home and run both of our daughters' SonRise Programs right now (as well as being medication dispenser, house cleaner, dish doer, etc, etc. <grin>) My husband is considering becoming a DAN! Doctor which nearly knocked me off my feet when he told me at the conference! (It only took me many, many months to convince hime that Nystatin might help the girls, and as benign of a drug as that is, can you imagine me trying to get him to write a script for something really non-conventional???) I think he has seen how much everything has helped the girls and also really got a good dose of the science at the conference, not to mention being impressed by Sid Baker. He's got a ways to go yet, but I hope he runs with the idea of becoming involved with DAN! We talked about opening an office down the road where he would see patients regarding the protocol, and I could work in the office on the educational and nutrition end...because of this I was allowed to attend the training (and plus they had a few slots left to fill anyway). It was more about how to interpret labs and which supplements she particulary uses, and the Therbiotic Complete is the one I called about today that she said was SCD legal but it's not even close. A lot of the things she recommended are not SCD legal which is why I said she hasn't quite learned what works for SCD yet. They (the panel) also talked about doing SCD almost as if it were a last-resort option if gf/cf/sf doesn't show dramatic improvement, so I gently got my 2 cents in when someone said something about poops not improving after trying gf/cf. I'm hoping that SCD will eventually be the diet of choice as more of the biochemistry and gut issues of autism become clearer in the next few years. Thanks for emailing me the info! --Rose
Guest guest
Rose, That is so cool about your husband becoming really interested in all of this. I look forward to the day when mainstream doctors don't look at us like we have 3 heads when we ask for help with the biomedical issues. I am sure you and your husband will have more than enough patients if you decide to open a clinic. The existing DAN! doctors are overwhelmed with patients. Guest guest
" My husband is considering becoming a DAN! Doctor " Isn't this what brings the high speed into helping kids with autism? Time and again we see that it takes PARENTS with autism kids to force breakthroughs ( Shattock, Rimland, McCandless, to name but a few). These parents fight three times as hard and really are aware of the fact that there is NO time to loose. No 'waiting it out'. Good luck with setting up your office! Guest guest
Rose, I sure hope he goes with this thought! I'm still so amazed when 1- dr's, schools and therapists, tell me " they just can't do the diet " . I can't even believe that people don't fully do either diet. How can you NOT? The only thing I can figure is that they don't fully understand what is going on with the foods they can't seem to take away. I actually had a DAN! dr tell me Monday that most parents can't stay on the diet. He couldn't believe we had been on it almost 2 yrs. That just referring to GFCF. Then he was intrigued about us doing SCD. He was supportive too. I honestly get sick when I get comments like " it was just too hard " . OMG- yes it's hard! However, if you don't try you won't know and things will only get worse. My son has so far to go still, but in my opinion sleep alone was worth GFCF. Occassional words and knowing I'm healing his gut makes SCD completely worthwhile. Not to mention that the food is far better! Encourage him for me!
