Guest guest
Hi Starting the diet with my 6 year old diet PDD Nos. is very agressive. We have been GFCF for 3 years. We had lots of improvement then but have been stalled since then although we do the DAN protocol with little improvement. So I am trying this. Is there a legal list - I haven't been able to find it, on pecanbread.com. Like toothpaste to avoid etc. I am trying to find some substitutes to the foods she loves so the transition is not so painful plus she is very dairy and phenol sensitive. Which means trouble with the nut flours. What about pork rinds they seem to be made with only pork and salt? I heard people on atkins use them as snacks and crush them as bread crumbs substitute. What about store bought Nut milks like from Pacific? Any other helpful hints for a newbie would be appreciated. Jeneane in Houston, TX mom to Sam 6 yr PDD nos Beth 4 yr Aspergers ? Guest guest
Pork rinds can be used as snacks. We don't recommend them as a staple in the diet because they really don't contain much nutrition. Waleda's gel toothpaste is legal. If your child doesn't swallow the toothpaste, you can use any brand you like. There are no store-bought brands of legal " milks " . There are lots of recipes on pecanbread.com, including one for nut milk. Welcome to the list! Jody mom to -5 and -7 SCD 15 months
Guest guest
My son started the diet 2 1/2 days ago and is extremely lathargic. he is usually very hyper and we always have difficulty putting him to bed. since we started he has been very " mellow " , sitting on the couch a lot and it was a piece of cake putting him to bed. he even slept an extra hour in the morning. should i be worried? is this a good sign? also, can pork rids be offered right after the intro diet? thanks for all your help. kim Re: Newbie/Pork Rinds > Pork rinds can be used as snacks. Guest guest
Welcome to the list Kim, > My son started the diet 2 1/2 days ago and is extremely >lathargic. he is usually very hyper and we always have difficulty >putting him to bed. since we started he has been very " mellow " , >sitting on the couch a lot and it was a piece of cake putting him >to bed. he even slept an extra hour in the morning. should i be >worried? is this a good sign? This is a very common sign of die-off. It takes a while to get out the harmful bacteria and their toxins. There is also a huge shift in the bodies' type of digestion. For some it takes a few days for some the worst of it can be a week or two. Epsom salt baths and/or activated charcoal can help ease the die-off symptoms. > also, can pork rids be offered right after the intro diet? > thanks for all your help. It really depends on the state of the gut. If your son has severe diarrhea then pork rinds are probably not the best food to add next. If he has fairly regular stools you may be able to start with a few and see how he tolerates them. But generally after the intro diet it is probably a better idea to proceed with some other foods so that he really allows time for some healing to take place. Some good foods to add in after the intro are green beans, squash ripe bananas, applesauce pearsauce. Please take it slow with the addition of each new food and consider keeping a food journal. The food journal is an invaluable tool to help find which if foods your child tolerates now and which foods are better to wait on. There is a detailed description of how to do the food journal in BTVC in Chapter 8 (p50 in the seventh printing). If anyone who does not have the book would like this written out let me know and I'll describe it for you.
