Guest guest
Jen I am sorry about your son. I'm sure it is very hard on you and your family. My daughter was diagnosed with cancer when she was 23 and as a mother you ask why it can't be you instead of your child. She has been cancer free for 3 years so that is good. No insurance for her either so we know some hardship in life. I have not gone to the Chiro yet because of finances but will have to soon to see if he can relieve some of the pain. I work full time so it is very hard at times. Good luck to you and yours, Dyana jen <jennybonner13@...> wrote: I thought that they had passed a law that said you could not be refused insurance due to a preexisting condition? I know I always worry that my son whose healthcare has cost millions of dollars would somehow change…My husband can never change jobs because of what the insurance does offer for us. In his first year of life he cost more than 2 million dollars. Many insurances have caps, we are so very blessed that this is not the case. I have no idea what we would have done without it.. Guest guest
I do feel extremely blessed with our health insurance. 23 and cancer – wow way too young. We really lucked out, we got married, he got a job and great insurance and I got almost instantly (while on the pill) pregnant and he was born at only 1 ½ lbs- If he had been sooner or my husband didn’t have that job. I would be in a WAY different situation. I really feel for those without insurance. My bills are up there but I can at least see the dr ! JP Re: Jen Jen I am sorry about your son. Guest guest
Jen: I got sleeved and I loved the anethesia! I went into the operating room, layed down, and I guess they put a mask on me or gave me meds and that was it! I woke up in the recovery room and that is all I remember! I didn't have any pain and felt great! I felt so great that I wanted to get up and move...however, my legs were not ready to support me and were still a little numb. So, I ended up falling and had a huge bruise....not because of anything but my own fault! But I am fine and have had very little to no pain or effects from the surgery or anethesia. In fact, when I had a c-section in the US, they give you a hugh spinal block before going in for surgery.....why can't they do it like in Mexico? They put you out, then give you a spinal....a lot less painful and more convenient! Good luck! Guest guest
hi i am 11 days after my HM and the one incision on my left hurts me also. I was painfree for the first 4 days after surgery and then the incision has been hurting off and on since. My surgeon told me that it is normal. Also, i have been having frequent spasms again like when i first started getting them. Before the surgery i was getting them once or twice every two weeks but now im getting them almost everyday again. I did have a spasm the night i came home from the hospital. I too am curious about the spasms and hope that they dont come back. katie in philly On Tue Aug 30th, 2011 4:56 PM EDT Crouch wrote: >Ok, I'm 24 hours after my Heller and right this second I have am having a spasm!! I've also had alot of pain in my left side where one of the incisions is and it feels like someone is ripping my skin apart, haven't found the reason why yet. > >Hanging in there.... > >Jen > > >
Guest guest
I have noticed that mine are triggered by gas, and post surgery, your bowels slow down from weakened abdominal muscles, which makes gas a lot worse. My best advice is to take a laxative and some gas-x and hope that your body starts working correctly soon.
Guest guest
Thanks , that sounds exactly like what I've been going through. I am walking more and I am also using an ice pack that wraps around my belly, so that helps a great deal too! And I too had lots of pulling pain in one incision (left side, midway btw ribs and navel.) I was convinced it was ripping open or infected since rest of incisions were fine. My surgeon said it was the only one that had to go thru muscle layers so as I moved, breathed, coughed, etc, I would feel it. And it would take longer to heal than the others. It was good in a couple weeks, and great in 4-6 Wks. Hang in there-- and keep walking as much as you don't want to. I really does help reduce the recovery hassles from anesthesia. Guest guest
Just had my heller myotomy last Wednesday, celebrating my 8th day! A couple of things I wish I had brought/known: 1. peppermint tea - soothes acid but won't do a lot, just a little help. good to catch acid right away until you can get the nurse to give you another dose of meds. 2. 3 prs shorts that sit below belly - I was gone longer than I thought, and only had one pair of loose fitting shorts! Also 3 shirts one size too big. Still can't fit into regular clothes for all the bloating. 3. Buy Pepcid AC tablets (chewable) to catch acid right away if it starts to come up after hospital stay. 4. Don't drive long distances for at least two days after the surgery. Stay in town two nights after the first night in the hospital. Then depending on the roads keep it to 2hrs max. If you're in the south you can probably drive a lot longer, lol. I had so much jiggling from driving on bumpy mountain roads I had regurgitation and had to go back to hospital. 5. gas-x for the gas pains/bloating 6. They'll give her painkillers, but if something reacts or doesn't work well with her, it might be a good idea to bring liquid tylenol (acetaminophen). Just be careful about the dosage and don't mix with the prescription medication. 7. things to eat in the hotel room while waiting to get well enough to leave: I would get some of those single serve chicken noodle soup cans and bring a strainer and then heat that up and pour the broth into a bowl. That's the best tasting chicken broth, and it would be convenient. Also bring beef broth. Once she can eat mushy foods, I'd have vanilla pudding and cream of wheat on hand. I made my pudding in a water bottle by pouring the pudding in there (not an easy task, I only got about half the packet in) and then the rice milk, and then shaking it. It was definitely the most soothing thing I could eat, and went down easily. Stay away from juices and orange tea, just water and peppermint tea. 8. If you have to stay in a hotel, try to get a room with a chair or recliner so she can stay vertical while she sleeps. If they don't have a comfortable chair in the hotel room, see if you can find one somewhere she can rest in. Otherwise use three pillows - terrace them together. Sleeping is still pretty uncomfortable for me because it's horizontal. I had so many problems with heartburn/spasms, the doctors prescribed Carafate for me, which is a medicine for people with ulcers, it provides a coated lining for the stomach and esophagus. It reacts with a lot of other meds, though, but it has certainly saved me a lot of pain from spasms this week. Stay away from citrus, even orange jello, gatorade, or lemonade, even that can cause a spasm. Good luck! Hope this helps. > > my daughter will be having a 2nd heller the week of the 19th. it is good to know some of the interventions used to deal with the post heller spasms. Guest guest
Wow!! You poor thing , I feel very lucky, as the worst thing I've had is pain in one left incision and some spasms! I've already been cleared to go onto mushy foods, & I could live off of mashed potatoes, so that's what I've been eating. This is my 4th day and I feel great! I hope that you too can feel great very soon! Hang in there, Jen ________________________________ From: pletchsr <pletchsr@...> achalasia Sent: Thursday, September 1, 2011 1:59 PM Subject: Re: Jen  Just had my heller myotomy last Wednesday, celebrating my 8th day!
