Hi all! Sam's birthday is next month and I'm gearing up for it. I've

decided to have a small family get together again, since he will

celebrate his birthday at school with his school friends. I've also

decided to avoid lunch this time to avoid all the hassle that will

create.

I've got the cake down and will probably make some kind of sorbet or

slush to go with it, but would like something to have out that's salty

to snack on. I'm thinking about the carrot curls, but am wondering if

I am missing anything. We are casein free so all those yummy crackers

are out. Everything will be SCD legal since it's Sam's party.

Any ideas?

Chrystee,

You can make crackers from the " 's Pizza Recipe " in BTVC. Those

don't have any dairy in them. I think it's just nut flour, egg,

oil, and seasonings. Also, the squash fries might be a good

choice. They are always a big hit wherever we go!

OOh.....that's a good idea!

Sam can't do squash though; makes him hyper and aggressive. I love

those " fries " though! Sucks that something as good for you, tasty and

versatile as squash gets pulled out of his diet.

Chrystee,

I've been offlist for awhile, and can't quite remember what Sam can

eat now, but here are a couple of thoughts:

1. Not salty, but we often have a fresh raw veggie tray at family

gatherings that are at my house. We do offer illegal dip, but my

kids have no interest in dip so its not a problem. You could skip

the dip, or make a legal one.

2. You can roast and salt your own nuts - toss them in a tiny bit of

oil, and roast at very low oven temp, then salt.

3. Gia has already mentioned my favorite -the crackers from the

pizza crust recipe!

Good luck.

The " ranch " dip on pecanbread.com is very good and it is dairy

free. You might try that with a veggie tray.

Ants on a log are fun too.
