Guest guest
I just got back yesterday after being gone a week so I'm way behind in mail and not sure what Kenzie's been eating. I know followed his diet while I was gone but I don't know amounts of foods or what his stools were like. Anyhow, I'm frustrated because he can't get beyond what he's eating. I desperately want him to be able to have raw fruits to open up the whole snack choices. Yesterday I tried giving him raw pears and sure enough, a really loose stool followed. His best formed stools were when he was back on the intro for three weeks with only chicken, bananas and pineapple juice. He wants snacks all the time. I give him almond butter cookies but he'd eat them all the time if I let him. He can't have too many bananas. Way too high in sugar and the phenol issue. Although giving him the No-Fenol helps with that. I don't know that I'm really asking for anything. I just wish it was ok to give him all the bananas and cookies he could eat in addition to his meals. Ok, I'll ask it. Would that be ok? What about the sugar from the bananas? Someone told me that bananas was one of the worst foods according to a raw food expert. I just don't know what to feed him during off meal times. Remember, texture is a big issue with him. Thanks for any input. Penny Kenzie ASD SCD 7 months
Guest guest
Penny, Have you ever figured out how many calories Kenzie is getting during his meal times? Is he truly hungry every time he requests food or does he just want to eat? I know that sounds like a dumb question, but some people just seem to like to have something in their mouths. Think of all the gum and hard candy sales in this country...LOL. If you figure out that he is truly not getting enough calories in his meals, then I would work hard at increasing the amount of food he eats at each meal. Also, I would make a chart and show meal times and snack times and not allow food to be eaten between the designated meal and snack times. Some kids like to " graze " and it doesn't bother their parents. I personally dislike it and stick to the scheduled meals/snacks. I am not advocating one method over the other, but you seem disastified with the " grazing " method Kenzie is following right now. I can't really answer the question about whether he should be allowed to eat as many bananas as he wants... how many would that be? How many cookies would he eat in a day if he were allowed free access to the cookies? If you need help figuring out how many calories he is getting, e-mail me privately and I will help you. I discovered this is one reason Luke always wants a sippy. I started letting him chew on/eat ice. He loves it! Some kind of sensory stimulation for his mouth, I guess. A bowl of ice at the table sometimes keeps him busy/happy for half an hour! in NC, USA mom to Luke, 5, Asperger's/low-salicylate; , 3;,22 mos; SCD going since 1/26/
