macrocytosis

Hi all i have just found out that my little boy who all the professionals told me was fine at 18 months old then again at 2yrs1month and 2yrs 4 months but who they then diagnosed at 3.5 with autism has in fact had macrocytosis. He is 5 yrs 8 months now and i have just had the results from a full blood count, the only one that has been done since 2006 when he was 18 months old and i researched the results myself and told his pediatrician that the low red blood cells along with the high mean corpuscular volume that his results showed meant that he had macrocytosis. She tried to disagree with me when i said he has obviously had it for the last 4 years and this is what has been causing his regressive autism, she even said if he'd had it for that long he would be in a wheelchair by now. Any way i said the symptoms were identical to his, i.e Awkward gait, poor balance and coordination, tingling in hands and feet, sore mouth, confusion and no language anymore etc so off she went to look at 2006 blood results to prove me wrong and guess what? She couldn't because she had to admit that he did have it 4 years ago and they missed it. God i am so mad right now. It just shows that 4 years ago when they thought he was typical they didn't even look at the results properly and now when they think it is autism they didn't even look at them again because they know what it is (or so they thought). They are so narrow minded that once they make their mind up on something they dont even think they need to look at test results. I am surprised they even do them i think they only did them to shut me up and prove they would be fine so i would stop asking questions. My poor little boy has got neurological damage now, i just hope that it is not irreversible. It was the same pediatrician that i told 6 months ago that the comp stool analysis that i had done at the Great Plains Lab indicated Inflammatory Bowel Disease because of a high fecal lactoferrin level and she laughed at me and said "he hasn't got IBD" and guess what? IBD can be one of the underlying causes of macrocytosis. So now and only now 6 months later is she finally referring us to a gastroenterologist and also ordering a serum B12 and folate test plus a urine screen for vit B12. Soz for the long post, i am in the United Kingdom. s

,I am so sorry this happened to you. I really hope you can find a new doctor that is on board with what you are doing and wants to help you. Also, I can't believe I am saying this, but I would find a lawyer. This is ridiculous. I am sure you are right and that your child has macrocytosis, but what is

macrocytosis really? Is it just another autoimmune disease or syndrome that is

truly a symptom of some undiagnosed pathogen? Although I would not refuse

treatment for this condition (unless the treatment is to weaken the immune

system), I would pursue a plausable and treatable causative.
