Guest guest
Terri, At the beginning stage I gave my son pieces of chicken, a tiny spoonful of legal jello, a sip of water. Now I may give him nuts, or a bite of banana, applesauce, or a tiny spoonful of peanut butter. He seems fine with it!!!!! I also try to get away from food, you should be trying to pair some of the secondary reinforcers with food... He gets a tickle, or sing a song, or plays with a toy for a couple of minutes, or does a summersault, or I make a funny face, or something like that for reinforcement. He has adjusted to SCD beautifully, when he was so addicted to PB sandwitches, cereal, french fries and chips!!! He played soccer today, and every 30 minutes kids have break for a snack - he doesn't even go close to the colored juices and the bagged chips. He comes to me and tells me he wants a banana or some nuts!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! This is a child who would eat pretty much only pizza, chicken nuggets, fish sticks, pretzels and crackers before we started GFCF last June. Tomorrow it will be the big test... We are going to a party where people will eat pizza... I just baked my first almond base pizza. I hope it tastes good to him!!!! Good luck. Guest guest
Coral, If your son has been on the diet for 3 weeks, it is way too early to be giving him nuts to snack on. Also it's too early for raw veggies (the lettuce). If you have not seen the improvement in his stool that you were hoping for, go back to simpler foods and cook everything. No whole nuts for snacks. You can make snacks using nut butters or even nut flour, but whole nuts are too hard to digest this soon. I am glad to hear that he is doing well with the transition and has accepted his new choices so nicely. I hope he likes the pizza. Guest guest
Thanks Jodi! When can he eat nuts? That was such a nice way of practising for First Communion!!! I made the pumpkin cookies but they are too soft and cramble! Coral
Guest guest
> Hi all: > > We abandoned scd about 2 months ago due to total boredom and missing > snack foods especially chips. Terri here is my case for SCD SCD is relatively new as an autism intervention and was received with some skepticism in the autism community at first despite the fact that the SCD diet itself has been around for nearly half a century. It's a bit like postcards from the Shrine of Lourdes or like the agent in " Jerry McGuire' who screamed " Show me the Money. " One can't ignore the testmonials and so much improvement reported by individuals not previously acquainted with each other. Ten or twenty would be a fluke but I have read far too many to not be intrigued and very impressed. GFCF is very emphatic about no casein. I just glanced at a GFCF recipe for Scallion Bread which included: white rice flour, tapioca flour, potato starch, sugar, salt. active dry instant yeast--these are multiple enemies of SCD and a damaged gut. One man's bread (GF)and milk (SCD are apparently another's poison. Only science can satisfactorily deal with these differences and establish the best approach. SCD is blessed with a superb scientist who has established the gut/brain connection and an analysis of what damages the digestive system. Meanwhile we still keep trying to untangle it on our own. I am glad you are back and hope you stay with it this time. It does take dedication. Carol F. --------- Toronto , Celiac SCD 2 3/4 years There is no substitute for the right food!
