Guest guest
I am currently taking 2000IU of Vit D daily. My current lab value for my Vit D was 75. What is the optimal range for Vit D?? If mine is lower than the optimal, should/can I increase the dosage and if so, how much should I increase?Another question is Vit D for men. Is the optimal dose for men the same as for women? Thanks,
Guest guest
Hi - Obviously I’m not Val or Nick, but I can comment on vitamin D. Yours is in a very good range. I don’t know the exact optimal range. If it was me (and I wish it was – mine is pretty low) I would hold at 2000 IU and check again in a few months. That will give you an idea of how that dose works for you. Some say it’s safe to take 5,000 per day, but I’m sure it depends on the person and how much sun (UVB) exposure. BTW, you can get a vitamin D test through http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/ – it’s an in-home blood spot test through ZRT Labs and costs $65. Val has another link to one for only $30, but you have to agree to test regularly through their research program. I didn’t want to make that commitment. Guest guest
Hey Dana, Thanks for the suggestions. I know that my levels are good right now but when I read a link that Nick sent through last night it said that for CFS and Fibromyalgia pains that you could take your Vit D to a level of 108 so I thought I would increase it a bit and see how it goes but I didn't want to overload if I wasn't supposed to. I can get tested with my Dr. everytime I get my thyroid labs done so this will help also. Thanks again, Subject: RE: BUMP to Val or Nick-question about Vit DTo: RT3_T3 Date: Wednesday, August 26, 2009, 12:40 PM Hi - Obviously I’m not Val or Nick, but I can comment on vitamin D. Guest guest
Oh. Ok. I forgot about that. I’ve read that you can push pretty hard in vitamin D levels without toxicity if you supplement D3 (which is the one most widely available – I think the super high dose prescription version is D2, though). D2 is much more likely to cause toxicity. Did you get to your current level supplementing more than you are now? If so, you could probably go back up to that, give it a few months, then test again. Good luck and let me know if the higher levels have any affect on CFS/Fibro. Guest guest
Hey Dana, I am taking Bio-D-Mulsion Forte and I take 2000IU daily. I'm not sure if this is D2 or D3. Do you know? I'm not very knowledgeable about Vit D. My level of 98 is while I am on the 2000IU. So I thought I might take a little a little more to get the levels up just a bit to see if the CFS/Fibro would get any better. Guest guest
Hi - I understand that Bio-D-Mulsion Forte is a great product and super well absorbed and utilized. It’s D3 – cholecalciferol. D2 is ergocalciferol. Unfortunately Bio-D-Mulsion causes me migraines. Let me know if getting your levels up higher helps. Guest guest
Dana, thanks for the info. I'm sorry that you get migraines with the product. I will keep you posted if I do get some relief with the higher levels.
