Hi Group:

I usually don't get involved with stuff like this, but I received my

MDA/ALS Newsletter today, and you all have discussed Lyme Disease and I

found this article very interesting and thought I would share a little

bit of it with you:

ALS doesn't masquerade as Lyme Disease. If you test positive to Lyme

Test, you can be assured you don't have ALS. Lyme Disease usually

presents itself as an infection, with a rash followed by a fever,

headache, and limb pain. They describe it as a red rash with a clear

center, resembling a " bull's eye " , symptoms very different than ALS.

ALS in vast majority of cases is painless, comes on over months, and is

not accompanied by a systematic component..

This article was written by a rheumatologist names Steere,

Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston. He is an expert in Lyme

Disease.

Rita

Luv & Hugs!

, you should find an LLMd in your area and get them to run the test. Igenex is widely accepted as the best lab to use for Lyme testing. You can find a doctor by going to http://www.lymediseaseassociation.org and clicking the doctor referal tab. You will have to register. Or you can contact www.ilads.org or some other agencies, just google llmd to find these agencies. These doctors get harrassed so they try to stay under the radar.

Hi Margaret,

I am curious how you were tested/diagnosed with Lyme disease? I have been trying to get tested for years, to no avail. Dr's pretty much laugh at me. However, I spent my childhood in a country/ ranch area, and always had ticks being taken out of my skin. I remember always waking up with ticks from playing amid the sagebrush, horses, cows etc. I was finally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia a few years ago, but I have had these same symptoms since my early teen years. I am just wondering if I do have Lyme, and if that is part of the cause of my children being on the spectrum. Any info would be great!

Thanks,

Hi I'm new to this group and not sure exactly where to jump in as my profile is a bit different. I was diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease a couple of months ago, and since it passes in utero, am keeping an eye on my 3 year old daughter in case she has it too. She is a former micro preemie (I think the Lyme could have caused the preclampsia/ premature delivery as both are vasoconstrictors) with lots of medical issues but she is not on the spectrum.I guess I'm wondering what you all know that might help me fight this disease, and should it come down to it, help my daughter too. Thanks so much!Margaret

I also meant to say that testing in Lyme is not that accurate. It is a clinical diagnoses and that is really why you need to see an LLMd. They will also be able to read the test more accurately and the results are different during the various lifecyles of the bacteria. A regular doctor just following CDC recommendations isn't going to be able to read it properly.
