,

I cannot advise but will share; I took Eltroxin for two years while on SCD

with no problem but stopped with Elaine's encouragement because my thyroid

became normal. Eltroxin is a synthyroid. I took it for many years before SCD

because I was very obese but am no longer.

This is from Pecanbread.com- Overcoming Difficulties

-------------------------

Child takes illegal medication that has no legal version

If your child is taking prescription medication that contains

illegals, first check with your pharmacist to find out if the med

might possibly be available in another form that might be legal.

Some medications can be specially compounded. If not, and the

medication is essential, continue giving it and simply do the best

you can in every other aspect of the diet. You may find that some

prescriptions, such as antacids or laxatives, may no longer be

needed once the child is on SCD™ but this decision is up to you

and your physician. Do not attempt to stop any medication for

seizures or for mood or behavior disorders without discussing

the preferred protocol for weaning the drug with your child's

doctor.

Carol,

Would you happen to know of any throid med. that is permissable for

SCD? (my son has hypothyroidism, yet not overweight yet) Did you

contact a compounding pharmacy ever to see if they could make the

medicine? Just wondering before I go ahead and contact our local

compounding pharmacy. Thank you for your help,

I will also share that my boys both take Armour Thyroid (a natural

thryoid drug, rather than synthetic).

The Armour has sodium starch in it, which to the best of my

ability to figure out is probably illegal.

The pills they take are miniscule and the amount of sodium

starch is small and I hope it isn't causing them any problems.

My husband also takes Armour thyroid and I have been pleased

for all three of them that there have been no bad side effects for

any of them.

Do you think the SCD helped your thyroid? My son takes half a pill of

the lowest dose of Synthroid. I am hoping the diet will still work. I

am still going to do my homework on alternatives.
