Here's what someone wrote on another group and maybe that's where that newspaper

got the idea::

Similar means little. It's like the mother who says : " My daughter is a

lot like me except her eyes and hair color are different and so is her

disposition

:-)

In this case. Paleo is a high protein diet.

SCD is not.

SCD does not limit carbohydrates as long as they are legal. Of course

moderation

and balance are important.

I know that the Paleo or Caveman Diet has been around awhile. It

sounds like someone is just adding the 'SCD' part to capitalize on

current interests. There are several low-carb diets out and about,

and low-carb is also a current mega-craze for weight-loss.

A main difference in SCD is that it deals with TYPE of carbs and not

QUANTITY of carbs.

Yes ,

Some greedy people make SCD a caboose on their personal train which has resulted

in unsanctioned hybrids.

These folks fool around with SCD pulling out his and that and adding their

own flourishes including SCD illegals but conveniently forget to change the

name.

They tell you SCD cured their kids and they are now SCD experts but subtracted

some nutritious foods and incorporated a bunch of stuff they discovered from

other diets.

Then they proceed to invite you to pay to learn more about bogus SCD... list

members, please don't rise to the bait!

If it worked for them, great--but they are not entitled to call it SCD.

Elaine Gottschall has devoted half her life to researching and fine tuning

the diet that was originated by Dr. Sydney Valentine Haas and his son Merrill

and will defend it as a lion guards her cub.

SCD is outlined in BTVC and on:

www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info

Adjustments for autism are at:

http://www.pecanbread.com/

The Caveman Diet may share similarities to SCD but SCD is not derived from

the Caveman Diet, Atkins or South beach Diets or any other low carbohydrate

diets. Perhaps the word " carbohydrate " is what forms a mental association.

SCD is not a low carbohydrate diet.

Elaine discovered it as a last resort when her daughter was facing drastic

surgery for mysterious seizures. That was half a century ago and she's been

researching and fine tuning it ever since. It is Elaine who established the

gut-brain connection.

There is only one SCD !

Re: Trademark issues. Elaine would know more than I.

Dear SCDers,

Can anyone of you inform me

how SCDiet is different from

Caveman's Diet (paleo)?

Is there any differences

between them, and if so what.

Someone is selling that Diet

with title " Cavemans Diet (SCD) "

in our local newspaper and I need

to find this out, before contacting

them.

p.s. is SCD TradeMark only in UK and

USA + Canada or is it valid

anywhere else?

scd is a historical continuity of the harvey/banting diet of 1862 and

before that a prize fighters and athletes diet.

from england it went to the usa and canada esp a woman doctor in

canada who haas most likely was aware of.

you can also see how gfcf derived from the medical version of the

harvey/banting diet which was pilloried by the medical community in

its time.

so i think to say the diet originated with haas is incorrect and

gives a false impression of rightness and being fixed in rock so to

speak, but is an evolution in understanding of which elaine

gottschall has played a hugely significant role.................

in the year so on lyris and here i have seen modifications of thought

by elaine and now i am getting it into myself a abit you can see

areas that need further clarification and working through which is

only to be expected since knowledge is a discovery process ........

promotion of a person or system is at best a bit empty and really its

only correctness in understanding the issues and tradeoffs that last

and i feel the diets interests would be better served by by more

flexiblity in discussion of what it is about rather than attempt to

create some fixed knowledge and class of interpretors which of course

falls apart because without understanding reality has a way of

breaking down rules.

dietary enzymes, particularly the houstonni ones have changed the

nature of scd and i really think elaine should be putting time into

this rather than dan(which i know has senior doctors in it not at all

inclined to elaine or scd)

the significance of vitamin d and other dietary nutrient/immune

factors with colitis is also much better known now and needs to be

accounted for.

personally i take it ill that my limited attempts to explore scd a

little more have been met with censorship and moderation on this

board and if you are so right why can't you take an open discussion?

why let moms suffer without them understanding the instrumentality of

enzymes which if tolerated make a huge difference. why the debacle of

a hostile approach by the scd 'leadership' to the houstonni enzymes

rice bran filler which, now houstonni also has a scd legal cellulose

filler product line appears to be quite a bit less well tolerated

than the rice bran?

Hi ,

I want to clarify these facts

Carol who wrote the post that you copied is not a moderator on this

list, just someone who loves to help us. Carol's opinions are not

always the opinions of the list moderators. Earlier this evening, I

told Carol on the phone that I did not agree with her opinion about

that mother.

Carol was not referring to D but to another mother. The topic

has nothing to do with enzymes. We have no opposition to enzymes at

all;we support the use of enzymes.

Why have you been put on moderated status?

Pecanbread and other SCD beginner lists are not free lists. People who

encourage others to modify the diet are not welcome to express their

opinions because they confuse beginners. Changing the diet may produce

failure with SCD. We want the best chance for success for our

children.

We had an advanced list with lot of open discussion about SCD. It is

too late in the night for me to post the directions for joining that

list but I will tomorrow.

You are welcome to join the advanced list to express your opinions.
