Well, check and be sure then ask if their are ways to make her comfortable,is

there

a hospice group on your area.? No one knows for sure why things happen, you

have

to stay positive,be strong and seek counsel from support grops. This is a

good start,

here others will share their experience, pray for you both and offer

sugestions to help

you cope. If you know now then you have time to say goodby ,find out what she

wants done, and just be there,if possible. Don't know if she is suffering, has

pain, other sympyons,or what level of care is necessary. What does her PCP or

ONCOLGIST SAY? When you first get the news you are shocked, numb, but you have to

go on.

Not everyone has the chance to help someone at this stage,so don't breakdown

gather your strenght and your courage. Find out what is the best way to offer

your support. Hugs and prayers Nick & Jane

, I'm sorry to her of your sisters diagnosis. The initial diagnosis is

very devastating for all of us. Has she had C.T. scans or a P.E.T.scan? Don't

presume the worst without more information. There are many who survive for

quite some time with a Stage IV diagnosis which would mean that the cancer has

spread most likley into the liver, possibly the lungs and/or the lymph nodes. I

myself was dx 12-02 stage IV with metastis to the liver. I have been on chemo

ever since. Although there has been some progression I still feel that I will be

able to survive this for some time. As many others on this list will also

tell you, try to encourage your sister to go to a major cancer center. The

Doctors seem to be more agressive. Also encourage her to get opinions from

multiple

doctors Keep us posted as you get more information. Dale M.

Oh, my, I am so sorry...bless her heart and yours, too. I have a special

affinity for those who are diagnosed around the holidays as I was in December

2002, also 2 days before Christmas. It was horrible, had to have Valium just to

survive the day for my kids' sake. <Shudder> I remember thinking the docs

could have at least waited til New Years' to dump that on me.

So...have you spoken with your sister, or did your news come from someone

else in the family? If so, my advice would be to call her. Although I do need

to mention that when I was first diagnosed, I wouldn't take any calls. I just

wasn't up to talking with anyone. I did not with interest who called tho, and

I was VERY grateful that people did. And eventually, when things settled

down I was able to return calls.

Your post didn't say much...maybe you could post again as you know more?

This is a wonderful place to ask questions, receive answers and support.

I know it sucks to be here, but if you have to be here at least there is a

" here " to be.

I'm so sorry. Here is a good place to start. Welcome. Know that it

is VERY VERY hard in the beginning. It doesn't stop being hard, but

at least know that you will go on and you will start to understand

all the information that is presented to you.

Have the doctors talked specifically with you? What do you mean by

the " last " stages of colon cancer? My mother was diagnosed with

Stage 4 colon cancer last summer. Right now she is undergoing

chemotherapy (she had surgery) and is having a fairly 'normal' life.

How sick is your sister?
