Oh Pierre,

I'm sorry you were disappointed once again. It is nice to know you are that

close to the top, though! I hope it will be soon and I'm hoping you will

continue to stay healthy!

You will be in my thoughts & prayers,

Dana

at least now I know that if they are calling on me to warm the bench, I

you out of getting a transplant on any given day.

Pierre,

So if you have a cold or some other ailment, they pass you up?

Sometimes, since they have to suppress your immune system in a major way

with a large dose of steroids before they go ahead with the operation. A

cold is a minor thing when your immune system is working, but it could be

pretty bad for a transplant recipient. Most likely to nix it is any sign of

fever. The transplant nephrologist and the transplant surgeon make the final

decision.

With a live donor transplant, where everything has been carefully

pre-arranged, that's about all that could affect going ahead on the planned

transplant date (keeping in mind that both the donor and the recipient have

to be healthy). With a cadaver kidney, there are more issues that can come

up.

I have to add that so far, with this group and others, I haven't heard of

too many transplants actually being cancelled on the day of the surgery, but

it does happen.

Sorry to hear that the kidney didn't work out yesterday. As you say, it is

heartening to know that you are getting to the " short list "

Oh Pierre!!!!!

What a day that must have been! It great to hear you are so very, very

close. Whoever would have thought it would happen so fast - especially

with you getting yanked from the list for a bit there.

Here's hoping you have a HEALTHY winter. Your mention of nosebleeds a

handful of posts ago had me worried.

Highest regards,

Cy

Here people are very, cautious about any kind of surgery. My husband's

laryngectomy was postponed repeatedly because of a cold. All sorts of

nasty liability issues can arise... and docs are understandably wary about

adding to the risk.

Oh Pierre,

I am so excited that they called you. I too think that it means that

you are at a point where they are making those calls. We will all be

thinking about you. Please let us know somehow that you are going to

get the kidney when the real thing happens. I'm glad that they told you

that you were back-up. I think that it would be very upsetting to be

called and not told that you are back-up. We are keeping you in our

prayers.

Thanks for your words of encouragement everyone. I appreciate it. I have to

admit it was a little tough going back to dialysis Saturday night, and my

Ottawa Senators didn't help by losing to the Montreal Canadiens on TV... but

it's kind of exciting to know I'm at the top of list. The guy who sits

directly opposite me at dialysis had the exact same experience the week

before. So now, we'll see who gets one first :)

Pierre,

Sounds like a great competition to me. Here is hoping that it is a tie.

Hi Pierre,

I'm kind of late responding, I believe, but I just wanted to say that

I am sorry that you did not get that kidney...but I admire your

positive attitude. I hope you get a call asap. Take care.
