Guest guest
My day started out not too bad. I felt hungry when I walked to the post office, but since it's not far I didn't think anything of it. After talking at length to a dear friend, I came home and was even more hungry so I tested -- 82 mg/Dl. I had my breakfast of bacon, and oatmeal made with ff milk, and went on to do housework. Without testing beforehand I had a snack of some meatballs and a glass of tomato juice. On the way in to town, driving, I started feeling dizzy and downed a 6 0z. can of pineapple juice and had some cheese and crackers. Worked really well, and I was able to get my grocery shopping done with no more problems. I usually test before I drive; don't know why I didn't that time. Once I finally got the groceries put away, I started off my porch to get a newspaper at the box across the street. (I walk with a cane, due to osteoarthritis.) My right leg wouldn't co-operate, and I tried to catch myself as I went down the first step, but landed on my rear end. The man across the street looked at me like he thought I was drunk. I stood up and went and got the paper, came home, and tested: 87 mg/Dl. So I had a grilled pork chop, broccoli with margarine on it, bulgur, a glass of ff milk, and a glass of tomato juice. (Two hours after that, bg was 115.) Now I ache all over from the spill I took, and feel like an idiot. If I didn't live in a small town it wouldn't bother me, but news travels fast and people have big mouths. I'm sure it won't be long before people think I'm candidate for village drunk. I told my daughter about it, it was making me near tears, and she told me since he really doesn't know me not to worry about it. She made me feel a lot better. But I get tired of having to explain -- sometimes -- about being diabetic and having arthritis. Thanks for listening. Hugs, Type 2 Oct. 2003 diet and exercise no meds (By the way, I've noticed my morning bg is really dropping since I started exercising on my stationary bike for half an hour after dinner. No exercise today, though, since the numbers have been so much lower.)
Guest guest
Dear : Sorry to hear about your spill in public. Gossip in a small community can be corrosive, devestating to reputation and inaccurate. I remember having to go around to several people to tell them the truth of it when I'd found out that for years, in the local community of one of the subcultures I enjoy, the word was I still lived with my parents. Yeah, I'm somewhat disfunctional and more than lightly unhinged, but it's about 800 miles between my home and my parent's home! Leone, rleone@... " Only you can prevent long sig files. Guest guest
If it is that small a town, doesn't almost everybody know about your diabetes and arthritis? The latter especially, as they would have seen you with your cane. Re: Crummy Day Dear : Sorry to hear about your spill in public. The cane is always with me, and the neighborhood dogs and cats even see it as a part of me, not a threat! I've used the cane for several years now. I'm not letting it bother me, though. Let him think what he wants; I know better. The guy who ignored me is pretty new in town so he should know soon enough -- if he even cares -- about the arthritis. I tried to do some time on the exercise bike this morning, but my body wouldn't co-operate; I ache all over. May try again after dinner tonight. I'll be fine. BG this morning was 102. Hugs, (thanks, everyone!)
Guest guest
It is awful that we have to explain why we behave the way we do, . Someday some of the folks who judge us will be in similar situations and they will know what it is like to be judged. Till then, just do your best. I hope the days ahead go better for you.
