Guest guest
I have an ICD which controlls the afib if I go into it. What it does is it can tell as soon as I go into atrial flutter and as soon as the ICD knows this it takes me out of the atrial flutter. Last year I was in the hospital every 2 months with Atrial flutter this year I haven't had to be converted it has been well over a year. I am feeling so much better. They do have a new pacemaker also which I may be getting next and It does the same thing pretty much. If ur heart goes to slow it kicks in and if it goes to fast it kicks in. You don't even feel anything. And the neat thing is when u go see the dr every 3 months they hook u up to a computer that detcts your ICD and tells when u have been in atrial flutter how long and it shows when it got u out. My Atrail flutter only last about 8 sec so I don't even know anymore. It really has been a life change I would recomend others to look into it. If anyone has any questions that I may help with e-mail me or im me at blueidmom2@... edgarowen wrote:Can anyone (I think there was at least one person on the list) who has this let us know how it is working please? Guest guest
I have had my Pacemaker since July 2000 - and except for the every two month check up by phone, I wouldn't even know it was there. My EP at Duke also hooks me up every three months, and he can tell me how many episodes I have had and how long they last - amazing! It's a Kappa DR701 Dual Chamber Pacemaker with two pacing leads, one placed in the atrium, and the other in the ventricle. It monitors both atrial and ventricular activity to see if pacing is needed. When pacing does occur, the contraction of the atria is followed closely by a contraction in the ventricles, resulting in timing that closely mimics the heart's natural way of working. It's set between 80 & 100. It's about the size of a half dollar, and it works well for me - and I'm sure dern glad its there! Before the Pacemake, with pauses of the heart, I became sick, dizzy almost to passing out.
