Guest guest
How come we never read about a foreign Queen taking a gazillion husbands? (Oh, yeah--no woman that crazy in the world, LOL) Gotta love the car and the credit card, though. Guest guest
OK..... living in luxury, driving a BMW, using the royal credit card..... is it really worth it? Let's all say a prayer, think good thoughts or light a candle for peace in our own country. I am NOT going to start a political or religious discussion but with the latest events in Alabama, my heart hurts and I have to ask "What's next for our beloved country?" I don't WANT to have to dance bare breasted in front of our king! Christy Swaziland's king picks 11th wife Southern Africas last absolute monarch, Swaziland's King Mswati III, has picked his 11th bride — and has already paid an "admission of guilt" fine for courting a virgin. The Times Sunday newspaper reported that Noliqwa Ntentesa (17) was escorted to the palace by the same royal aides who landed in court last year for allegedly kidnapping the king's 10th bride, a schoolgirl. That case made international headlines as the mother of Zena Mahlangu charged the two men with abducting her daughter — in a first for the 35-year-old King Mswati, whose father, King Shobuza II, had more than 70 wives at the time of his death in 1982. The mother eventually decided to postpone the case indefinitely. King pays fine for breaking own law Earlier this week, King Mswati, also known as the "Ngonyama" (lion), paid a fine for breaking the "Umchwasho" chastity rite which bars young maidens from sex for five years. The rule is an attempt to combat a high HIV/Aids rate in the tiny landlocked country. The king introduced the chastity rite, under which unmarried women under 23 known as Imbali YeMaswati (flowers of the nation) must wear "don't touch me" woollen tassels, in September 2001. The weekend newspaper said King Mswati had now paid an "admission of guilt" fine of one head of livestock for breaking the chastity rite, confirming speculation that Ntentesa was the newest arrival in his string of wives. "Noliqwa is now an official bride to the king and she is very happy about the latest developments, and she has accepted that her future is with the royal family," a source close to her family said. Father says he would have challenged "abduction" Ntentesa's father, a maths lecturer at the University of Swaziland, said he would have challenged his daughter's "abduction" in court, but did not have the money to do so. I thought this is fairly interesting …okay scratch that this was really interesting… gosh I’m happy I live in America. Tyra The newspaper said Ntentesa was expected to be paraded as the king's new bride during the annual reed dance in September, a traditional ceremony where young maidens dance bare-breasted in front of the king for him to choose his next wife. Ntentesa is said to be enjoying the royal life in a luxurious guesthouse nextdoor to the queen mother. She has been assigned a messenger to report all her needs to the king, is driving a five-series BMW and freely uses a royal credit card to finance her needs and entertain her friends. Guest guest
Depends, I'd say . . . it's one of the best deals available for a woman in Swaziland; sometimes you go for the best you can get, not the best there is. OTOH, my Grandaddy used to say, ' if you marry for money, you'll wind up paying for it.' As for our country, it lurches and groans; but, progress is being made! An hundred years ago, this issue would have gotten someone lynched. Today, it's waving signs and yelling. Not perfect, but definitely progress! Hugs. Guest guest
Cleopatra, the Great, Empress TzuHsi . . . now, admittedly, they weren't LEGAL husbands; but, women do kick over the traces once in a while. Of course, if you're not going to marry for love, luxury does help. Owens klo5@... wrote: > > How come we never read about a foreign Queen taking a gazillion husbands? Guest guest
Well, if it was the RIGHT set of husbands . . . just think, one could be off making a living whilst the other was home to keep you company; I've often thought that the really ideal number of adults for a marriage was four -- three to be employed and one to raise the kids . . . great economic security, great social opportunities, and great home life. Owens ===================== What woman would want more than one husband at a time. Caring for one can be an all day job in itself. Then nothing else would get done. And they think they have it hard. It must be even harder for those with children. Also, when there was a man around any female leader in the times of most of the women mentioned they were out to either subdue her and gain the leadership that way or out right kill her. some were smart about it and some were not.
