The science of fat transfers continues to improve.

Now in Europe they are using stem cells to help

fat transfers and help women to have larger

breasts without implants. In a few years, this

procedure may be here. It is exciting.

, I agree with Patty. Nan, who posts on this board as well is trying to save up money to get the remaining capsule out of her body that her first explant doctor left behind. She is still very sick, even after explant. She had saline implants!! Dr. Kolb is charging her almost $10,000 just to remove the partial capsule which was left behind. I am with you, I would pray to God and hope He leads you down the right path. Your surgery is going to be expensive and I would hate for you to have another surgery down the road to remove the capsule. Hugs, Lynnglory2glory1401 <glory2glory1401@...> wrote: ,I wish Dr. Melmed will show us his proof for saying the capsules will dissolve. Did you ask him? I am sure he can get it all if it is not too risky. I'd just want to make sure he has it in his mind to get it all if he can. In that case he may be a very good choice for you. I would just want to know that my doctor is not basing any of his actions regarding my outcome on false assumptions, such as capsules dissolving. At this point, we believe it is best to get out all of the scar tissue, based on several studies and papers written by medical professionals, and the experiences of women who did not have capsules removed and did not heal. You can see these articles for yourself in our

files section and links section on explant. Be sure to read them and review them carefully. You'll just have to go with your own instincts! Dr. Melmed has a great bedside manner from what I have heard.By the way, how is Kacey doing? The last I heard she was still dealing with some symptoms that have not resolved.Patty> >I have been talking to Dr. Melmed, Dr. Kolb, and Dr. Huang all week.> >I still haven't decided which one I want. Dr. Huang removed my implants through incisions under my breasts. I am happy she did not go through my areola. My scars are getting lighter each day and they are in places which I can not see. I will ask Dr. Huang about the capsules at my next appointment and let you all know. Hugs, Lynnfreebindi <bindi@...> wrote: Hmm, that's very interesting that Huang says the same thing as Melmed about the

difficulty of removing all of the capsules. I was under the impression from previous posts that Huang ALWAYS removes ALL the capsules. From the research I have read, some women who have residual capsules take longer to resolve symptoms, but I haven't read anything about women who have small scraps of residual capsules. My guess is that the body might still think it has foreign invaders (implants) if the whole capsules are left behind, taking longer to get the message, but tiny scraps of capsule don't have the same effect. If I am not mistaken, all the surgeons who remove capsules make incisions around the areola, but some, like Feng, also add a vertical incision. Bindi

Bindi,

Yeah at this point I am leaning toward a lift. I

really don't mind being smaller, but I want youthful

looking breasts since I am 29 years old. I know the

transfers are an option too, but I am so worried about

doing anything that may interfere with medical

imaging. Since I live in Canada it is alot harder to

say you need an MRI instead of a mammogram or

ultrasound. I currently have a lump in one breast that

seems to be a cyst. The experience of finding it and

waiting 2 months for testing was emotional.

Did you have your explant and lift through an areola

incision?? My implants are under the muscle.

Thanks Bindi!

Katy:)

Well, now, I would have to think about that. If

I were in my 30's, I think the answer would be

yes. I am 66, so it is a different thought

process. I would not do it until it had been

done for a couple of years in the U.S. and I

would check on the changes it might make in

hormones. If it affected hormones, I would have to say no.

Nobody likes to be missing a breast like I am,

but I am pretty used to the prosthesis. It is

heavy and uncomfortable at times, still. But, I

am not much for surgery these days.

I am really glad that an alternative to implants

may be just around the corner. I would love to

see every one of them destroyed.

Lynn,

I dislike where I was originally implanted because my

scars (on the sides of my breasts, under my arm) show

in alot of shirts and bathing suits. I was expecting

in through the armpit but I guess for some reason the

surgeon didn't do that....I know they probably have to

come out a different way, so I appreciate hearing your

feedback.

Today I had a 2 hour long abdominal and pelvic

ultrasound ordered for my IBS. They found more lymph

nodes in my abdomin and something I really wasn't

expecting... Apparently my appendix is huge. 3

different Dr's came in to look at it. They said they

were surprised I wasn't very sick. I thought maybe I

just natuarally had a large appendix, but now they

want to take it out. They said it may be " chronically

infected " . I asked if it could be related to my

digestive stuff or the lymph nodes but it seems they

don't know. I don't want surgery that is unnecessary.

I will get another opinion on it and see a

naturopathic dr. So weird... I guess that may account

for the pain I have?? Wonder how all of the pieces

connect together?

Katy:)

Hello, Dr. Melmed says he DOES get the capsules out, the ONLY time he leaves any is if it has adhered to the lungs or ribs to where it would cause excessive bleeding or puncture the lungs. That wouldn't be worth it. He says it's like removing a wet tissue from a mirror. There will always be microscopic remains. But that the capsules will dissipate. I haven't asked him yet where the proof is for that yet. I have been soooo busy talking to Dr. Kolb, Dr. Huang and Dr. Melmed about many different things. All my answers and questions are turning and turning in my head!!! Dr. Melmed did say however, that He personally has never taken out implants that had mold and fungus on them. He said he has never seen this on implants ever. I wonder what is causing the mold on some of these ladies implants?? He also says that it's not the capsule that causes the problems but the silicone in the shell. I would imagine though that there are "microscopic

remains of silicone" in the capsules too. Maybe that is why some of these ladies are sick or it's that the damage has already been done from having the implants. I guess it is worse on some than others. I believe though through detox and proper eating and of course GOD that there is hope!!! Kacey said she is doing good. She feels much better although not 100%. But she has her energy back and she is not hurting like before. She also went back to Dr. Melmed for a lump on her hand and he removed it for her and barely left a scar. She was well pleased. Just thought you all might want to know!!! Blessings! p.s. I posted some pics of myself on the group page photo section if anyone wants to put a face to a name!! lolLynn <spinkscl@...> wrote: , I agree with Patty. Your surgery is going to be expensive and I would

hate for you to have another surgery down the road to remove the capsule. Hugs, Lynnglory2glory1401 <glory2glory1401 > wrote: ,I wish Dr. At this point, we believe it is best to get out all of the scar tissue, based on several studies and papers written by medical professionals, and the experiences of women who did not

have capsules removed and did not heal. You can see these articles for yourself in our files section and links section on explant. Lynda, Have you heard anything bad about the fat transfers that Dr. Huang does then??? This seems too good to be true! It would be worth the extra $2000 she charges if it actually works and I could still have "big" boobs!! ha ha Well, they won't be like they are now but they will be ALL ME!!! Patty, Thank you for the information. I wondered why this wasn't practiced more. That makes sense. I seen a womans pictures who had it done and they were nice and full but that was only a few weeks post op. Who knows where the fat will go or shift too. That could mean you could have one breast a size c and the other a size a. I wouldn't want that!!!! Maybe someday if the stem cell fat transfer works that would be a option. I don't know....I think i will have spent enough of my breasts by that time!! I think I will just enjoy what God has given me from now on!!! glory2glory1401 <glory2glory1401@...> wrote: ,The reasons that they don't use fat transfers to increase breast size are several. First, when I was getting explanted and asked about this, I was told that it was too extreme of a surgery to be done routinely on women. It was reserved only for those who had had mastectomies and were reconstructing the breast. That was in 1997.Second, since they've advanced in their procedures somewhat over the years, they have begun offering this more to women in conjunction with liposuction, but the fat transfers are not as effective as breast implants in terms of long lasting size increases. With fat transfers, you also cannot attain large changes in size, say from an A cup to a D cup. With fat transfers, the fat can eventually

dissipate over time, and you may lose a good portion of the size gain, thus making the surgery somewhat ineffective overall. I have read that around 40% of the fat will dissolve or redistribute. The reason is that it does not have a blood supply. It is not self sustaining. So, while a fat transfer may appear to be a solution for those wanting larger breasts, in the end it may not be worth the expense and the effort if most of the fat redistributes. We may begin to see some further development in this area though, as new technology begins to advance using our own tissue for breast enlargement. A Japan clinic is doing what is called Cell Assisted Lipotransfer, which is essentially a fat transfer, but they take an extra step to cull stem cells from the fat obtained through liposuction. These extra stem cells form a blood supply to keep the fat healthy and anchored in the breast area. It is not being performed in

this country yet though. I've got links posted on this clinic in our links section.Over the years there have also been research companies working on cloning cells to make body parts, and some have even created breasts. We're probably still a ways off from seeing that used as an effective breast enlargement technique though, if they ever do. All in all, I think we will see gains being made in this area that will make silicone breast implants a thing of the past. I certainly hope so.Patty I have been talking to Dr. Melmed, Dr.> > > Kolb, and Dr. Huang all week.> > > I still haven't

Oh, if you don't mind me asking who did Nan go to for her explant???? Cutshall <michellecutshall71@...> wrote: Hello, Dr.

I would imagine though that there are "microscopic remains of silicone" in the capsules too. Maybe that is why some of these ladies are sick or it's that the damage has already been done from having the implants. I guess it is worse on some than others. I believe though through detox and proper eating and of course GOD that there is hope!!! Kacey said she is doing

good. She feels much better although not 100%. But she has her energy back and she is not hurting like before. She also went back to Dr. Melmed for a lump on her hand and he removed it for her and barely left a scar. She was well pleased. Just thought you all might want to know!!! Blessings! p.s. I posted some pics of myself on the group page photo section if anyone wants to put a face to a name!! lolLynn <spinkscl > wrote: , I agree with Patty. I am with you, I would pray to God and hope He leads you down the right path. Your surgery is going to be expensive and I would hate for you to have another surgery down the road to remove the capsule. I would just want to know

that my doctor is not basing any of his actions regarding my outcome on false assumptions, such as capsules dissolving. At this point, we believe it is best to get out all of the scar tissue, based on several studies and papers written by medical professionals, and the experiences of women who did not have capsules removed and did not heal. You can see these articles for yourself in our files section and links section on explant. Be sure to read them and review them carefully. You'll just have to go with your own instincts! Katy,

I had areola incisions for explant and lift, and yes there are scars but they aren't bad. I think they look fine. It's not like I'm hanging out on topless beaches in the bright sunshine or anything. The shape from the lift is fabulous-- young and perky-looking, I can even go braless (not that I do that either except at home). Definitley better than how they were before implants-- I had nursed three children and was rather deflated-looking. Not anymore!

As far as any other lumps, when you have your explant, your surgeon will examine the tissue. I had this one lumpy area that Melmed told me afterwards was just a fold from the implant. After explant it was gone.

Katy,

I think that after explant you will find that many if not all of your "strange" illnesses and disorders will gradually disappear over time as your body heals from those bad puppies. Many women have had numerous diagnoses (including me) for illnesses that disappeared after explant. When I first got sick I was told I had MS, lupus, irritable bowl and bladder syndrome, insomnia, neartsightedness, TMJ, panic disorder, tachycardia, vertigo, migraines, rheumatoid arthritis, FMS, CFS, Sjrogen's, Reynaud's phenomenon, etc. Now I have one condition-- adrenal exhaustion. Everything else is gone.

I am sorry you are having such a frustrating time with doctors. I think it is quite wrong for them to be paid for the first visit with them. It is like we are interviewing them for a job, not them doing a job for us and getting paid for it, I am sorry having to pay them for a load of verbal bullshit is wrong ! !

I dont think you should put your life in the hands of anyone that you dont feel comfortable with.

Doctors dont have the right to ask you questions about your personal or legal issues, I would never answer that one, it is none of their business. Or if you do answer the question of "are you gonna sue?" , with , :" Why, do you think I should? " That doctor must not be confident in his work, a big clue in there........ what he said about his business not being a charity, well, just how rude is that? You should bill him for your time. That whole visit was wrapped around his big ego, and his little ------.

The first question I would ask when a doctor has me start signing those consent forms ( consenting to pay for additional surgery to correct his mistakes) is, have you been sued before? Are you not sure of your skills as a surgeon, and then walk out.

People no longer have rights or any protection against these people that call themselves doctors, who legally steel your money for services not rendered, I do NOT consider a visit with a docter where all he does is talk down to you, and ridicule what you have to say, a medical visit where you owe him money ! This is wrong ! !

You will find the right one to do your surgery. I am sorry you have been thru this !

Dear Bindi and Saline Support Group:

I am a new member. I have mentors textured saline implants from

1994. I have one rupture and have seen 4 plastic surgeons about

removal. They are all board certified with excellent credentials.

The first one is really nice which I have a surgery scheduled with

next month and said he will try and remove the capsule also as best

as possible. However, he didn't order blood work and told me I

didn't have to quit smoking which kind of worries me.

The second told me to leave the capsule in for extra clevage, isn't

board certified (of course-I am NOT using him).

The third was a real calous jerk, gave me an attitude about my

chronic illnesses which I won't use.

The last does remove the capsules and says no, they don't just vanish

and leaving it in WILL result in a future surgery which was nice to

hear. He was a bit arrogant, maybe a little humorous, but NONE of

them will admit to illnesses conected to them,, of course. The thing

that worries me about this one is that he wouldn't show me before and

after pictures of removals without replacement because he said there

was no point because everyone's breasts look different after

removal. That worries me. I saw his breast lifts (which I can't

afford nor want to do at this time). He also made me sign a paper

that if further procedures need to be done, (ie: treatment of

infection or further surgery) I will be responsible for. My husband

is very upset about him not showing me pictures and thinks that we

shouldn't have to pay for any further procedures relating to the

first one. Has anyone heard of this or had to sign something like

this? I din't the first time. I thinkk he's a little money hungry.

He told me his business wasn't a charity. I also told him my history

of bad health since 7 months after the implants (neurological-bad

mri's etc, fibromyalgia, etc, etc) and said I wanted to keep the

implants and have them cultured and caught a lot of flack. He said I

could use the hospital for thos labs if it made me feel better, but

not some off the wall lab he wasn't familiar with. He was very

defensive and asked me if I was going to sue anybody because he

didn't want to get involved in it. He might be the best surgeon so

far (credential wise) but seemed he was more worried about saving his

own ass instead of my health. What do you think? I am so confused

and don't know who to use at this point. I am so tired of paying a

fortune for consults too!

I do have a rupture (recent) and have felt really crappy since it

happened. I don't think he believed me. Thanks.

I wonder if we should email pics of moldy saline implants to Melmed, we have several very impressive ones........What else would be his explanation for the black, and brown inside of them? They certainly exist ! I know the mold on the ones in my closet is green ! ! Nasty, and they are in sealed Bio-hazard containers. Nasty ! They have been sitting there since Oct of 1994. They were full of saline when first in the containers. and in the last couple years, ( 2-3) they have deflated and grown mold. What does that tell you? How did they degrade and deflate like that? They were fine the first 8-10 years in there, except for the mold.

I wonder what caused it? the MOLD ? ? ? ? if so, this is very scarey ! .......

Prayers and Hope to all ! DedeGet a sneak peak of the all-new AOL.com.

Hi , I went to Dr Haggerty in SC, he is right by my house.

Let me tell you, it was the worst mistake. He said all the right

things, but I did not ask enough questions. I was very ill and just

wanted them out. He did the surgery and said he took out the

capsule, I only found out he did a partial after reading the report.

Then he lied many times because he knew he did not do what he said.

So....please only use on the better known doctors. And with Dr

Melmed, I know there has been discussion about this, but I would NOT

use anyone that leaves anything, I would rather bleed to death than

know I had to live like this for the rest of my life. I keep coming

back to Dr Blais, he is the biochemist, and what he says makes sense

to me. And the Dr I am using said the tissue can actually grow and

adhere to places if you leave it, and I swear that is what is

happening with me, I can feel stuff behind my breasts. This is a

very costly mistake. I keep paying and paying and I am still not

finished. PLEASE don't make this mistake. Nan

Jo-NJ,

Are you sure you want to use any of these

docs? I don't believe any one of them is truly on your side.

You might want to check our list and find one

that believes and treats you well. I definitely

don't go to a doctor who does not treat me like

an equal and like I know what I am talking about.

Oh, Nan, honey, it sounds like we are in the same boat. Dr. Blais told me that I have no choice that this garbage must come out. I am so sorry that you too have been abused, it makes me so angry. I hope that you find a good surgeon to clean you out, you need your health back.

Stay close...love you...Lea

Absolutely I would have done that instead of implants years ago if I could have. I would definitely have preferred to use my own tissue instead, and I even asked my plastic surgeon at the time if there wasn't anything else available--even cloning tissue--and he said no. So, I went ahead. I asked tons of questions on safety. Unfortunately, at that time my husband and I were living paycheck to paycheck ( I saved up my waitressing tips for a year to get implants) and we were lucky to even get a computer when we did, which was right around that time as well. Lynda, you were one of the very first women I wrote to after I got sick...I remember your article called "The Safe Saline Implant?" I think I even still have that first copy I printed off on my dot-matrix printer way back--10 years ago! Oh Lynda, gosh what we've been through. You've suffered way more than I

have. As for doing it in the future if it became available, I tend to say NO. I have become comfortable with my body now. I want to age gracefully. I accept that this life as God made it is the way it was intended to be lived, wrinkles, saggy breasts and all. I trust in His divine providence and grace. I've got better uses for my money, and I think I'd rather make sure my kids have an inheritance than to squander it foolishly on a body that is going to go to the grave and turn to dust anyway. But, never say never! Who knows....If I ever ended up with so much money that I wouldn't know what to do with it, and life was a bowl of cherries, all our needs were met, all my kids needs were met, and my modest boobs were hanging again (with my lift they don't hang at all, they're perky), I just might give it a second thought. LOL, Lynda, thanks

for asking. That was fun to think about! Patty Lynda Roth <coss@...> wrote: How about you? Would you consider it? Wow, Patty. I totally agree with your answer.

We have all suffered, and you know that God led

you to this info. I was just a way to get it to you.

And look at what you have done for yourself and

others once you were educated. Wow.

I think we are better people because of the adversity we faced.
