Bill,

If you are not having kidney problems, there is no reason to exclude them

from your diet-moderation is the key of course as they have carbs!

No it is not the whole sory. My creatinine is about 3.1 and has been for

several years. I have about 15% kidney function, but all my other numbers

are good so no dialysis yet. I do not have any swelling either in my legs.

I thnk my nephrologists is a chemical wizard and he keeps eme going. I also

watch the diet and take lots of pills!

RE: Question for people with kidney problems

Wow, Dave, 50% kidney function.

I thought you had said at one time your creatinine level was pretty high.

Mine has ranged from 1.5 to 2.1 over a few years. I think we are close to

the same age. But, my nephrologist says my function is about 37%.

I guess creatinine isn't the whole story?

Jice works the bet for me. I drink 4 oz. of apple juice though as it comes

in the exact 4 oz. size needed in baby juice bottles and that keeps me from

drinking too much!

Re: Question for people with kidney problems

Also, as one who used oj for many years, the tendency is to drink way too

much. I usually drink a few ounces of grape juice now, sometimes in

conjunction with a glucose tablet. I never have juice as part of a meal,

only when low.

RE: Question for people with kidney problems

I wonder if there is any online list of things I should shy away from? I

don't have a dietitian (yet), but even so, there are so many that still

think old-school and I can't tell if they will give me good or bad info. I

have seen so many people even recently that were still given the " drink lots

of orange juice on sugar lows " line, this from dietitians that should know

better. It's scary.

Yup, it's me, the bald-headed dude from Riverside. We had moved to Duarte

and just recently moved to Temple City. Bari is fine and working with the

Junior Blind of America. Her sister Robin lives next door to us. We're all

fine as we hope you and are.

Pat,

My doc says I have a slight drop in kidney function, but I honestly don't

notice anything different in the way I feel. He has been keeping an eye on

it though since we don't want my kidneys to go south.
