If you've been put on synthroid perhaps your dr feels you are hypothyroid and

if so, that could explain your failure to lose weight. I too am on a beta

blocker and am told not to let my heart rate get above 100 or so! Thinking that

the beta blocker was keeping me from losing weight I talked my cardio into

letting me get off of it for some months. Alas, no weight loss and my thyroid

tests are normal. Not even Atkins works!!! So back to the drawing board for me!

Good luck!

I need to get to 106-115 for optimal fat burn. is this

going to be impossible taking these meds(and others). Will I never

be able to adequately get to this real fat burning zone of 60-70% of

my MHR (174 bpm). I am also having troulble losing weight even tho I

work out almost every day. Again could the meds be the problem?

I also have a problem getting much over 120 bpm although my MHR is 152. I

take atenolol and amiodarone. My resting rate is around 50. The only time I get

over 120 is if I am taking a spinner class at the rec. center and the

instructor is pushing us or I am riding on the roads and have to climb a long

hill.

When I am on the spinner bike by myself I don't get much over 110 bpm.

if you recently went on synthroid, you must be hypothyroid, which can lead to

difficult weight loss. Also remember that if you're working out now, you will

be building muscle at the same time you are loosing fat, so you may not notice a

change in your weight immediately, but you will start to notice a change in your

body shape.

I too am hypothyroid and take 150 of synthroid, AND work out on the eliptical

trainer at the gym.. I have been attempting to go off and on since the summer,

although haven't been now in several weeks due to being in rapid a-fib right

now. I have only lost a little weight, much to my dismay, but a friend commented

the other day that I was looking thinnner and more in shape.

Hang in their, watch what you eat and continue to work out... the change will

come and you will be better for it! It's also said that the slower the change

does come, the more likely it is to stick around for the long term.

Thanks Brenta, I am confused over the thyroid issue. My Dr says I am

hyperthyroidism and we have gone from about 50 micrgrams up to 150

now to get my thyroid in a normal range. My Dr likes tsh levels of

about 1. Maybe for me that is to close to hypothyroidism. I too

have tried atkins, sugar busters, etc with no luck. I mean I lost a

few pounds initially but then it stopped losing regarless of my

calorie intake or exercise. I current ly use the elliptical trainer

6-7 times a week for an 30 mins each an then do weights, alternating

nights gtweeen upper body and legs so as not overtax the muscle

groups, still nothing. Thanks for your input.
