Guest guest
Since I do not like the taste of miricle whip I'll stick to my mayo. BUT we only use the light mayo or non-fat one that Helmans makes. I prefer the light. It has half the fat and calories of regular mayo Made by Helmans. Because of high cholestrol I have been on a low fat diet for years. My mom, who lives with me, and I both have a genetic form of high choles. It seems our bodies make way more than we need. I also prefer the taste of light butter rather than margarine or reg. butter. It takes a little while to get used to the slightly (and it's VERY slight) different taste of both but better than the regular. There are some whose research has shown that eating cholesterol and fat don't cause high cholesterol. My cholesterol has come down since I stopped eating so many carbs and added more nuts, avocado, stuff like that. My good cholesterol has gone up. YMMV. As for taste, we're all different. I can taste real butter or something else and tell the difference quite easily - same for mayo. It seems like they put something sweet in the light mayo to make up for the fat they took out - and to me, it tastes terrible and not at all like real mayo, and not even remotely close to homemade mayo. We all make our own compromises. I can taste the difference between real and diet sodas, and I like the real ones much better, but I choose the diet ones because otherwise I'd be over my carb limit in less than two glasses of soda - not worth it. Butter and mayo, on the other hand, stay in my life, and only the real thing! Delia
