Okay,

You all welcomed me beautifully and I'm continuing to test, and I am

definitely a member of this community. (I tested at 133 this A.M. and 144 at

3:00. ) I have started watching the AMOUNT I eat, but apparently, I don't know

WHAT to eat. I would have imagined it would have dropped as my weight IS

dropping

from the lack of food.

No fruit juice, right? Which fruits and how much?

How much protein?

Milk?

Whole grain cereals with no sugar in them?

Which culprits sneak up on you? I had a shmear of barbecue sauce on my

lunch today and like seven french fries. The 144 is high for me so far, with

ramdom daytime readings. They've actually tended to be lower than the fasting

readings. I'm doing more exercise, will that help? Is it a problem exercising

when it is really hot?

Marie

Hi Marie,

It is hard to tell anyone else what to eat because the foods affect all of us

differently. The best thing to do is eat something then test 2 hours later

to see how your bg's are doing. Some people can eat fruit while others cannot.

I cannot eat bananas, but can eat blueberries, peaches, apples, etc. I can

eat 1/3 cup dry oatmeal without it affecting my bg's. Other people cannot eat

oatmeal. Some people can eat potatoes, others cannot. It is overwhelming at

first, but it will not take you long to learn how foods affect you.

Exercising plays a major role in controlling bg's. Some people can exercise

once a day and it helps to control their bg's. I have to exercise (which

includes cleaning, yardwork, housework, shopping, walking, etc) after eating a

meal of higher carbs for my numbers to be normal.

Don't let all the information, high numbers, not knowing what to eat upset

you. That will only lead to stress which will cause higher numbers. Just take

one day or one meal at a time.

Keep asking questions as you have them. Also, make any comments/suggestions.

I'm still learning and I've had diabetes since 1999.

hugs

Eunice

Hi Marie,

You should be able to get the info from your local diabetes association. If not

- I will attach a printout I got.

Have more info if you need it.

Hi Marie,

Sorry - I forget they don't allow attachments. Will send the printout privately

to you.
