Ervin ... you could try what I do, especially if you know you're in a-fib.

Just take it 5-10 times in rapid succession ... that gives you the range of

what your rate in a-fib is. Hope that helps.

Dear Debbi,

I have promised you to give you (and others) my opinion

about the Pulse M. W.

I picked it up today and tried it right away.

Unfortunately I have one subjective and one or two

objective (technical) problems.

The subjective one is: that I don't hear the beeps well

and the W. needs approx. 8 seconds in order to give

a " long beep " , what I don't hear and what the W. not

always makes.

Next problem: when the HR isn't rhythmic but arrhythmic

(like mine) the mechanical counting is false.

I try to find some remedy but I doubt that i'll find it.

I hope you enjoy it more and it contributes to your

health a lot.

Regards,

Ervin

Earvin, I would tend to agree with you. Here's why:

When I'm in afib taking my pulse manually or via my BP monitor or

my treadmill heart rate monitor is impossible. It reads around

90bpm. The trouble is my heart is beating so erratic it can't read

it accurately. The heart is beating like this:

beep...beep...b...b...bbbbb...bb.bbb...bbbbbb.b.b.b.b.bbbbb.b.b.b....b

bbbbb.b.b.b.bbbbbb..well unfortunately, you all know what I mean, it

goes crazy.

On my last ER visit the nurse took my pulse manually and said " your

pulse really isn't that high. " I told her she wasn't getting a good

reading because of the afib and she ignored me. When they hooked me

up to the EKG it got the right reading which was 190 bpm and they

gave me and IV of cardizem which almost immediately brought it down

to 100bpm. The nurse that finally took care of me during my

cardioversion told me the same thing. It's really tough to get an

accurate reading unless your hooked up to an EKG machine.

Toni, that's exactly what I've found also. I just bought the PMW

because I have such a hard time finding my pulse.
