Guest guest Posted April 20, 2001 Report Share Posted April 20, 2001 I was wondering if anybody has taken zanaflex and didn't like it? I took one dose and it made me feel paralyzed in my sleep and have overly vivid dreams, (not nightmares)and today photophobia, it did nothing for my pain. I read the package insert that I found on google.com and it seems weird neuro side effects are associated with zanaflex. My doc prescribed it for pain, from what I just read about it, it doesn't sound like it's for me. My pain is more the burning neuropathy type, not muscle spasms which is what zanaflex is for. I want to go back on Neurontin, which is like a nice bath for my brain. I've been off it for a year, I had a 35 pound weight gain which was all fluid trapped in my lymphatic system and I lost it rapidly when I tapered off Neurontin. I'm thinking that I'll ask for 1200mg/day, was previously on 3200mg. My question is, if I take the zanaflex for many doses is it more likely to be helpful? I know many medications you have to take them for a while before you know if they are going to be helpful. I think that because zanaflex is so short acting that you don't build up a blood level of it so that if it doesn't work the first time, it's not going to work. I was started at a 2 mg dose three times aday and worked up to 4 mg three times aday. I noticed I was falling asleep about 1/2 hour after taking it, so I backed it down to 2 mg three times aday. I found that it worked well for me in dealing with the muscle spams in my shoulders and neck. The doctors tried me on Relefan, Viox, Celebrex, Ultram, Flexaril and none of them helped. Zanaflex can cause drowsiness so it may help to talk to you doctors about starting at alow dose and working your way up. I also wanted to mention that I take Tigan for nausea when the syrnix is giving me trouble. I get Zofran IV when in the hospital. Compazine makes me spacey and the doctors have a hard time deciding if it is the med or ACM/SM giving me problems.
