I'ver never smoked, either. When I was diagnosed I was asked if anyone in my

family had thyroid problem. None. So they said they didn't know the exact

cause then, could be stress-related. I was under a lot of stress from work then

so I agreed.

Now I think about it, maybe my Dad and my sisters are just not diagnosed. (I've

never know my paternal grandparents and my maternal grandfather as they passed

away when my parents were very very young. Therefoer I don't know what kind of

family medical histrory we had.) My Dad is slight diabetic at age 70. I

remember him complaining about not feeling right and taking his own pulse when I

lived with my parents. My 2 sisters, one can be sent into rage at the snap of

fingers (like me), the other seems depressed and had done lot of tests with her

bowel/intestines but nothing wrong was found. They're both very skinny (and so

was I), and under 30 years old. I want them to find the cause and stop

suffering.

I had that same thought. It sure sounds like a lot of us were. I only

counted one person who said they'd never smoked.

I couldn't find a thyroid connection in my family either. I've made my Mom

and both sisters get tested...still working on my brother (you know how men

are about doctors!!). One sister was born with a enlarged thymus gland and

standard procedure at the time (in the 50's) was to do radiation treatments

to shrink it. She has been on Synthroid for decades because of that...but

that is the only connection.

I think mine has something either to do with my Mom taking DES while she was

pregnant with me, or some kind of environmental factor.
