Hi Gwen,

Someone else posted that their doctor had them testing before a meal. I

don't know the reason for this.

For me, testing before a meal would not give me any information. Even if I

have a high reading two hours after eating, I'm back to normal in less than

another hour.

Could the reason for testing before a meal be because it takes longer for

some people's bg's to get back to normal? Does this even make sense? Anyone

have an answer.

One reason I test before meals at times is to know what the BG is and

then plan for food and quanity for the meal to be sure BG does not

elevate higher than I want it to. I use a simple formula to calculate

this.

Testing 2 hrs. after meals is a necessity but the occasional before

meals serves a good purpose too.

My doctor has me testing before meals only since I'm on insulin

and I need to know my BGL so I can plan my meals and because unlike

most people I do not peak at 2 hours for some reason. It has taken

me as long as 3.5 hours to peak. They discovered this when I was in

the hospital. They were testing at the 2 hour point and again in 4

hours. The 4 hour test was always higher, so I was told to test

before meals only in order to get a more accurate reading.
