Pedometers range in price from $4.99 to over $30. It has been my personal

experience that the inexpensive pedometers (the ones under $10) are wildly

innaccurate and not worth the money. I tried 3 different ones and not a one

of them worked properly. (Keep your receipt and Walmart will take them back,

no questions asked.) Perhaps I just have an odd walking gait or something,

but the cheaper pedometers just didn't function properly for me, even though

I followed the directions from the package and wore them properly. (For

example, one day I walked 5 miles and the counter said I only took 117 steps

that day.) Finally, I coughed up $26 for a better one and it works great.

Not only does it measure accurately, but it counts total steps taken, counts

aerobic steps (10 minutes or more of sustained walking), has a clock, counts

mileage, calories burned, has a 7 day memory, and automatically resets itself

each day. It also can be clipped to your waistband, or a purse, and has a

lanyard so it can be clipped into a shirt pocket. As long as the unit is not

laying flat, like on a table, it will measure steps in any position, such as

upsidown (the meter, not me, I haven't quite restorted to climbing the walls

yet). I found mine at Walmart in the pharmacy section next to the glucose

meters and blood pressure cuffs.

I bought a pedometer for 12.83 at walmart today. It calculates

milage, steps and calories burned. And it also has a 7 day

memory. It was at the Pharmacy counter.

Cheaper would be the way to go if it works for you. No use spending extra

money if you don't have to.

That's the type I tried first before buying my more expensive Omron. Perhaps

my local Walmart just has a defective batch of pedometers. Two other ladies

who walk the mall in the morning that I know of bought the Sportlines from

Walmart and their's didn't work either.
