Amy H,

I have been to different therapists and it is all the same. I don't like

them and I know that I am depressed. After I get things over with I will

feel better. Thanks anyway.

Just an added note here - unfortunately not all states have GOOD waiver

programs. Oregon does indeed have a waiver program, but it is still income

based - you are only allowed a little higher income than with traditional

medicaid so it's worthless to us.

I think needs more fluid too. We find pedialyte and liquid polycose

works well.

Sylvia,

It took me nearly 4 months from the surgeon consult till I got my date, and

another 2.5 months for the date to get here. Everybody is different, and

from what I see every surgeon is different, and then there is the

ever-painful insurance process. What ever the time frame is, try not to feel

disappointed or discouraged while waiting because there is a wealth of

knowledge to be had in the interim which renders you better prepared for the

surgery.

Hi Sylvia,

I'm not sure on Dr. Thayre, but I believe it's running approx 1 1/2-2 months

out, but I may be WAY off, I'm sure someone on here could inform you a bit

better than myself.

Best of luck with you on the 18th of October! Did you prepare a list of

questions you may have, along with health history, etc?

Hi Everyone, I am normally lurker. I read all the e-mails and find for the

most part they are very informative. I have my first consult with Dr.Thayer

on Oct. 18th, and I do have a question? How long usually after the first

visit do you have to wait for a surgery date? Sylvia

Sylvia-I waited about 6 weeks to get a surgery date (June 9, 2000-down 54 lbs

since then!). I'm not sure if the wait time is the same now. Dr. Thayer and

his team are great! Good luck at your consult. It's such an exciting time!

Feel free to ask me any questions about WLS and welcome to the list!

Glenda, Please know that your new friend here in Indianapolis is thinking

about you, hoping that you get through these difficult days. We lost twin

boys at 24 weeks. Even though I know that is not the same, I do have some

of your same feelings. I always think what we would be doing today, if they

would have been born. We have no other children, so you go through the

" what if " dyndrome every day of your life. I hope God holds you this

weekend, please know that there are better days ahead for you, Carol S

Glenda,

I'm thinking of you today... Eden Grace's " birthday " . Your love for your

daughter will never die, even though she can't be with you physically.

Anniversaries are so hard. We just passed the 8th year after the stillbirth of

my first daughter. Time just seems to slow as you approach " the day " , doesn't

it? Go ahead and place that marker, read over the notes and cards you received,

look at any pictures and mementos you have and go ahead and cry. Each year

brings healing and strength, though they are tempered with sadness.

Your prior posts indicate a strong faith. One thing I remember vividly is of my

husband and myself praying throughout the pregnancy that this child would

glorify God. It helped tremendously to realize our daughter was doing just

that, in a more personal way than we could ever imagine in this life on earth.

It does make you yearn for heaven just a little bit more! Someday you will meet

your daughter again and she will be very proud of the strong and caring person

you have become.

Love and hugs,

Darlene

I've written Kat privately with my thoughts on this matter. All I will say here is that I would have a hard time believing that anyone on this list "bad mouthed" another group member. I've never known a more loving, kind, compassionate and caring group of women who make it their mission to uplift and support other members who are facing the same trials and tribulations we all suffer from these diseases. I just don't see it happening here.

Re: (unknown)

I agree with Kat

It is always best to come out in the open with it rather than starting rumors or vindictiveness.

If you have a problem with an individual it is only proper that you confront and deal with those issues with that person only. Unless it gets to be to the point where possible slander ofcharacter is concerned. Then having a witness is handy. Other than that it is between just you and that person.

Welcome,

Most of our 700 plus members are hypo, for one reason or another.... so you've come to the right place.... I'll let those that have had a biopsy pitch in with their experiences with that....

I'm wondering, though, if your doc tested your thyroid antibodies.... Do you have copies of your labs... could you post the results, with the lab's ranges for us to see?

Wow! This is an interesting topic.

I too developed at an early age. When I was 12, 13 or 14 I remember wearing a short set that was a bit too short and tight for me (at the time, I did not know it) and as I was walking down the street I remember guys whisteling from their cars. I thought "wow, I must look good!" But when I got home, my Mom called me a slut and was mad that I was wearing what I was wearing. I truly had no idea that it was as bad as it was.

Everytime I have been thin, I have easily entered into relationships with men - many I must say were not very healthy relationships. I know, now that I am older, that my weight protects me. I am working on realizing that I am now healthy emotionally and would be able to handle any relationship with a man and be able to recongnize an unhealthy relationship and be strong and take care of myself. And sometimes I think I'm ready and other times I'm no so sure and that is where the weight protects me and keeps me hidden, if that makes any sense.

-------------- Original message --------------

It makes sense, and there has been a lot of talk about how many women use extra weight as a form of protection, because we DON'T want to be reduced to objects! I started developing at age 15, and I looked older than I was. Basically, I got pretty large breasts, and started getting hit on and harassed, and it only got worse when I moved to New York City for college. I didn't have the emotional resources to deal with it, and I started wearing baggy clothes and eventually put on some weight.I don't know whether it's strictly feminist thinking or not, but I do believe that women (and, increasingly, men) are devalued when given the message that the most important thing about us is how hot we are.>> I totally agree with this article. Infact my husband and I have had this conversation a lot lately. He feels that I am a bit of a femanist when it comes to modesty. You know what I guess I am if that means that I feel that women are being devalued more and more we take off our clothing and have everything that God gave us out there for everyone to see. I think that this whole idea of flant it if you got it, is one of my hang ups with losing weight. I don't want to flaunt anything. I want to get healthy so that I am able to have the energy and clear mind that I need to be the best mom to my adorable three children. Sometimes I think it is easier dealing with being a little plump more than with cat calls and seeing people look at me like I am an obeject. I feel like my wieght protects me from that. People really have to get to know ME for who I am. I will say that I am grateful for my fat, because I am fat people do not see me as an object. > What do you think?> D.> > > Ask a question on any topic and get answers from real people. Go to Yahoo!
