EMG (SFP)- nerve conduction study

Hi Carol, et al.....

Besides Neurontin - I take Effexor XR for neuropathic pain in my legs. I

only take 75 mg a day of the Effexor XR (and for some reason it must be the

XR version for neurpathy.) I switched because it was cheaper than N (lower

dose) and people n Fibrom-L were talking about good results for pain. (It

is really for depression.) My legs/feet are like ice cubes without anything

- (besides the pain). But my doctor rolls his eyes when I tell him that's

how I decide take my next dose - when my feet start getting cold - that comes

before/with the extreme pain.

I also have a dx or CMP (chronic myofascial pain) and my leg muscles have

lots of trigger points. If you poke around on your muscles you can feel the

really bad spots. Some massage therapists (and PT's) are trained to do

myofascial release. Some DO's (doctors of osteopathy) are also very good at

myofascial release or craniosacral therapy. There are tons of them in

Dallas, TX because there is an osteopathic medical school there, but NONE in

Houston. I used to drive back and forth to Dallas (about 250 miles one way

from Houston).

You can also get something called an Alpha-Stim and treat yourself at home if

your doc will RX it. I haven't tried that yet but I'm hearing good things.

My EMG was positive and I have diagnosi of CIDP, myopathy (unknown origin),

etc...... I wanted to say earlier (to ???) that the doctor who " didn't

EXPECT " the EMG to be positive FOUND what he/she EXPECTED to find.....i.e....

a self fulfilling prophecy (SFP).

Right now I am the middle of a dog sandwich. I have a poopay on the right of

me and a pooppay on the left of me. We are all in bed, where we live nearly

24 hours a day...<g>.......A 2 dog night/day and I live in Houston.

But, based on a pin prick and cold sensation test...it was determined that I

have small fiber neuropathy which DOES NOT show up on an EMG or Nerve

Conduction Study....

My neuropathy is out of control right now and my Neurontin is not cutting

it. In addition to the neuropathy, I am having pains in my calves. I can't

get to sleep at night because the pain is so bad.....I guess I need to call

the doc...

I am having a QST test later this month. It stands for Quantitative Sensory

Test. I have NO idea what's going to happen, but was told it wasn't

painful......
