Guest guest
Welcome to the list and the beach. Congratulations on losing. I just wanted to correct one thing for other newbies, but if you have added those foods, you aren't really doing phase one, you are doing phase II. Just so that the newbies don't think that that is phase one. But it's great this works for you, just that for others it might not. Keep up the great work. Carol Newbie Good Morning! I joined this group a few days ago, and admittingly been lurking to get to know everyone. I started Ph1 last Thursday and have been doing well. I did modify the program just a tad as I am a runner and found myself feeling really really bad by Sunday (I think it has been my exercise on top of the change in diet). I incorporated one low GI fruit and one low GI complex carb – which for me has been slow cooked oatmeal. I have been feeling REALLY good with those choices and the scale seems to agree. I too have to come clean, I am an obsessive weigher..and I don’t mean food! LOL! I weigh at least every morning, and sometimes at night just to ‘check’ myself. It’s a REALLY bad habit, but it’s a security tool from someone who has dealt with weight issues my whole life. A little back ground is that I have been overweight most of my life, carrying the weight as an ‘apple’ shape. In college I did Optifast, and lost all extra weight (down to 174 from 270 at 5’11”), met my hubby and then slowly started to gain. I suffer from Poly Cystic Ovarian Disease (another insulin resistant clue!!), and it took us many years to get pregnant. By the birth of my daughter approximately six years later, I weighed 300 pounds at delivery. I kept that weight on for about 1.5 years, dropping down to about 268 and joined Weight Watchers. SLOWLY over the next 4.5 years I lost weight and weighed 186…and BOOM, pregnant with our son Jack (it was actually planned – and shows the effect on fertility of maintaining a good weight for your body). Jack was born 11/30/02, and for nearly two years I have really struggled to get back to the 180 mark. At delivery I weighed 235. At SBD PH1, I weighed 209.4, and as of today, the scale reads 203.4, so that is a nice loss for the past six days. I do feel good about the numbers since I had added two non-veg carbs in early and not seen a gain on the scale. My goal is to get down to my pre-preg weight, and at 36 yrs old, I am also starting to feel the aches and pains of being overweight. Finally, I am a runner…ok, actually a SLOGGER (slow jogger), but in the past I have really enjoyed it, completing one marathon, about 12 half marathons and too many 5ks to count. I love the challenge of distance, but I did find myself injured after a Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot 10k, developing Plantar Fascitis..a foot injury due primarily to carrying too much weight (particularly in women after child birth). SOOOO, my other goal is to feel good running distance again. Anyhow, that’s me in a nutshell…oops, sorry to all you nut-a-holics! LOL I look forward to hearing advice and I REALLY appreciate the heads up from people to remind us what IS and IS NOT SBD approved! Believe me, I have ‘massaged’ many weight loss programs to fit my ‘needs’, only to find out it only hurt me in the long run. Reminder: The South Beach Diet is not low-carb. Nor is it low-fat. The South Beach Diet teaches you to rely on the right carbs and the right fats-the good ones-and enables you to live quite happily without the bad carbs and bad fats. Guest guest
Thanks for the welcome! You are correct. However, I did follow Ph1 for 4 full days, and I do think that was really really helpful in getting the sugar/white flour cravings under control. It was a really good lesson on how frequently I ‘graze’ and don’t really notice! I highly recommend sticking to it for the two weeks if it works for you. It really does give you a ‘detoxed’ feeling, and I think it allows us to feel ‘stronger’ for making choices that are healthful for our bodies. But I guess why I posted was to give my experience and not to promote misguidance. In my own experience, if you are running/exercising hard and burning a lot of calories, the fruit and/or carb addition might be worth trying if you can’t shake that ‘bad’ feeling. Maybe not going to the full PH2, but just one or two servings until Ph2 is supposed to start. Anyhow, its just an option, just like the option to continue PH1 after 2 weeks if you feel its good for you, although for the most part is not recommended in the book by Dr. A. I guess our overall goal is to lose weight healthfully, and to feel better. And thankfully we have an awesome tool to use to get there. Re: Newbie Welcome to the list and the beach. Guest guest
Hello. I'm a 32yo single parent, graduate student struggling with depression while working on my dissertation. I have 75 lbs. to lose. I'm 5'5 " and 213. I'm a member of the online site, but I find it sort of easier to use the yahoo groups!! Basically due to time constraints--I can't continuously go through all those message boards. I'm only on day 4, but finding it harder last night and this morning than the first day--if only because I just had to start my period the 3rd day into Phase 1. ?!?!?! I look forward to encouragement and encouraging others.

Guest guest
Welcom, Kim. I've been on phase one for almost a week and have lost 3 lbs...at weigh-in today. The headaches I guess are normal, others get them as well. I had some dizzy, light-headed feeling the second and third day, but it's gone now. Theresa Kim Gepper wrote: Hi My name is Kim.
