Has anyone heard about using Boric Acid to control yeast. I saw it recently

on the News as an old remedy revisited by a Dr. in town. PA and it is

suppose to be very effective. How much and how frequently?

I also have had great luck with boric acid. Buy the boric acid and

make suppositories with placstic capsules.

Use this over creams or oral, its easier on your overall system, and

it helps.

My doctor advised me to buy to Boric acid and empty capsules

separately in bulk and make my own suppositories. Its easy, just

pour some powder into a bowl (be careful). Separate the empty

capsules to be filled and push powder into one end with the other,

then close the capsule. Thats it. I use one capsule as a

suppository at bedtime for seven days. According to my doctor, the

capsules may be inserted two times a day upon waking and bedtime.

Start small and see how you do. Good luck!

My HFS has a kit for filling capsules so you can do

that with your herbs also. I bought one and is easy

to use.

Isn't the boric acid harmful?

Can you use it vaginally?

Can yeast build a resisitance to it??

Where can I buy pre-made capsules? (seems easier than making your own)

Thanks

Gigi,

I am surprised you can't find Boric Acid at pharmacy or grocery...should be around where you'd find epsom salts...usually a brown bottle and it is a white powder.

We used it for soaking infected fingers /toes, boils, ingrown hairs - Rite Aid, CVS must have it I'm sure...it is as standard as rubbing alcohol or peroxide.

BTW Gigi - Borax and Boraxo ARE NOT the same thing at all (although

great products) I don't think they were meant anything like this;=)

Timely post. I just bought some boric acid at Shoppers Drug Mart (big Canadian chain) - the clerk had to hunt for it but it was behind the counter for some reason. A white powder In your standard white plastic vitamin-type bottle.

And I think the stuff in the blue bottle with the "eye cap thing" you're talking about that your mother used might be something like Optrex. It's still available and I still use it. (But judging from all the cautions on the Boric Acid bottle, I don't think I'd put this stuff anywhere near my eyes).

Cheers - penny

Deborah,

I will try Rite Aid tomorrow. there is one by my work. I did try near epsom salts and also detergents. I went to the grocery and a little pharmacy that seemed like the old fashioned kind that is near my house. They looked at me like what the heck is that. It is one of those things I have seen but now that I want it cant find it. I wasnt looking for a brown bottle though. Is it the same thing that we used to rinse our eyes out if we got something in them when we were little. I remember my grandmother had a blue glass bottel which I still have with an eye cap thing that you pour the liquid in the cap and put over your eye and lean back. I might be wrong but thought that was boric acid

Thanks I will look harder.

Hi Gigi,

Yes, that probably was boric acid. Years ago, we had a really bad year

for flies and my horse developed an inflamed eye from them. We washed it

out with boric acid. Worked beautifully.

Actually Elyse, it isn't at all. My ND prescribed boric acid suppositories.

You can make your own. It works.

Insert one capsule twice a day - am and pm (just before bed). For 14 days.

Dear Elyse,

The best vaginal treatment is alternating antifungal and probiotic

treatments. Remember that everything gets absorbed into the entire

body. I don't feel comfortable with using boric acid.

Dear Lori,

I do not recommend using boric acid for the vagina; I believe it is

too harsh and have known women who've had bad reactions to it. there

are many more natural things you can use that are not harsh but do a

good job. See the Files for Vaginal Yeast for many good treatments

and helpful hints.

Hi Lori,

I know Bee doesn't recommend Boric Acid but I've used it with no

adverse reactions. At a time of intense vaginal itching, when I really

needed relief and nothing else worked, Boric Acid did work. I used it

two ways... in capsules and diluted with water as a douche.

just wanted to offer another opinion.

all the best,

You can buy Borateen in a box off the shelf at a grocery story. It's

a laundery detergent powder. It works great on all kinds of insects.

It's no more toxic than table salt.

Boric acid has been used for hundreds of years. For many different

purposes. I would use it before using any chemical pesticide.
