Subject: vaccinations

has anyone applied for a religious or medical exemption for vaccinations?

what have been your experiences?

how do we go about it?

thanks

In some states they do not have personal exemption--only religious

and medical. In a couple of states they only have medical

exemptions, not even religious.

To the original poster, if you go to www.google.com and type in

how to write a religious exemption

it should pull up a website that has chetday in the line, probably

the very first one they list, and that will give some examples of how

to write a religious exemption. Dana's website also has a link to

some help too.

My son is also starting kindergarten in September, 2005.

After having conversation with the senior physician of our pediatric

practice last July for my son's 4 year old check-up, we mutually agreed that

since all 4 year old shots have the span of 4-6 years, it would be prudent

to at least wait until he turns 6 in 2006.

As far as paperwork for school registration, the same physician provided our

immunization list with completed shots accompanied by a letter stating that

due to my son's neurologically-based apraxia diagnosis, we will defer

administration of all 4-year old vaccinations until he turns 6.

The doctor was a pleasure to deal with in this regard and my son is

completely registered for next school year.

I have also heard that school districts will typically accept a titer of the

antibodies to show protection from diseases/illnesses.

I hope this helps! Good luck!

You can indeed have his titers checked, it will check for immunity from his

last round of shots, if it turns out he is immune, you give a copy to the

school nurse and he does not need the boosters.(ive done this with my son), if

it

turns out he is not immune to something, give them a religious exemption

along with their vaccination updates and they may not question you. But

whatever you do, do not mention that the reason you are not is for

philosophical

reasons, claim RELIGION, RELIGION, RELIGION !!! You do not have to show proof

of

what religion you are, because it is discrimination for them to even ask

what religion you are !!! Anyway, hope this helps !!

Hello ,

Years ago I worked for a pediatrician and you can get the MMR

seperated - they will need to order them ahead of time or you can

probably get them from your local health department - they should have

them on hand. Most parents requested them seperated because of the

possible link between the vaccines (particularly the MMR) and autism.

It really just takes a minimal amount of time for them to order them

for you and your insurance should still cover them fully. Good Luck!

I know how you feel.

We got the MMR, DTaP, Polio and Pneumococcal at 18 months old WHILE on Augmentin

for one of many ear infections that she suffered from. Within 2 weeks, she lost

the ability to smile, lost eye contact, started having seizures, and stopped

responding to her name.

Going all the way back to the beginning, we had some sort of reaction after

every single vaccination. That time was the worst.

Hind sight is 20/20...and hind sight is very painful.

I had lost my copy of Mark's vaccination history and just received my new copy

in the mail. Here it is in black and white and now I remember so clearly....

At 64 days old, he received Diphtheria/Pertussis/Tetanus/IPV and HIP Vaccine.

ALL on one day.... The next week, he was hospitalized for an RSV infection. I

forgot that the 2 events happened so close together.

I feel sick....

We have a similar history with . For us though I can't say it was

that one vaccine and here is why. He had the vaccine, about a month

later when I was getting him checked at the cardiologist for striders a

lirttle kid stuck a germ-infested stuffed animal (from the hospital

played with by tons of sick kids...one place where plastic is better).

The next day he got RSV. He was so gassyfor the first 18 months and

cried that encyphylytic cry the entire time. It still haunts me to think

the milk was at least part of that. On that particular day he had a huge

gas bubble and it took two techs and 4 hours to check his heart. We were

at a hospital for God's sake and they all just looked at me like why

couldn't I fix this!!!!!!! Anywho, was it the vaccine, was it the

progesterone in the steroids (if there is any I do not know) he took

for the RSV? He is doing so well yet these questions still haunt me.

That whole progesterone thing fires me up because:

1) If it is in the steroids and they are needed, not much can be done BUT...

is it the steroids or the aluminum likely in them (that stuff is in so

many drugs, particularly the generics)?

2) If they profile folks genetically for autism what is the point? Are

you at risk for taking the pill? At risk because you drank excess

progesterone in the water peed out from others who did? If this is

really an issue is the $2500 distiller I am looking out going to filter

it out? Can we test for it?

3) The whole progesterone thing sounds like a red herring that nets out

as a negative for us and a way for insurance not to cover things and Big

Pharma not to accept what is and is not their part in this.

I am just throwing this out there. I hate the not knowing and I hate the

questions I keep coming up with in my mind. I love what is happening and

I love these kids, not just mine but all of them. I just have this

passion for underdogs.

Same thing here - MMR in late December; flu shot early January;

pneumonia, ear infection and febrile seizure mid january.

February - no words anymore

I never thought we fit this category until I saw it in black and

white and I almost fainted. I had forgotten all about it, too.

In my daughter I did notice the constipation after MMR and also a loss

of most of the words she knew in Spanish (this is the NT kid) which was

well over a hundred within a few months. Note: she got the MMR late as I

was pregnant with her brother when it was due. Had I not been on the

board she would have gotten a SECONDMMR in June as a fourth birthday

present from the State of NJ. No thanks!

It is painful and for me. I did ask about ingredients, felt confident

we were doing the right thing and calmly held my screaming children down

for those vaccines. Still, some days I am comforted they were vaccinated

against some stuff but just wish it was done further apart with fresh

vaccine. Daughter only has 2 left, both are not even required in other

states. One is an unnecessary DTP booster as she has had more than kids

in most every other state. The second is another MMR...not a booster.

There is a law in NJ that allows me to get the thithers and refuse that.

I will do something but she is not getting either shot. My son has more,

mostly unnecessary boosters and a second MMR. To top it off I am pretty

sure there was a visit where he accidentally got two DTPs on the same

visit. If so it adds to my theory that my boy keeps getting knocked down

and still gets up so it is my job to do the same. These kids, not just

mine, are miracles. I don't see my kids getting anymore vaccines shy of

a DTP for an emergent situation. Were I to do it over I would do this

differently:

1) I would know every ingredient of the fresh vaccines I'd be willing to

pay for and ask for them only after I researched and came to the

conclusion that vaccine was necessary and really did contribute to the

herd vaccination thing.

2) I would skip the ones I thought were unnecessary and did not

contribute to the herd theory.

3) I would space them.

4) I would investigate the autoimmune thing in my family that seems to

give us extra immunity and causes some vaccines not to " take " in us (DTP

for me as well as the mumps component of the bad MMR shot I got as a kid

and had a reaction too...so they gave me another one!).

The truth is stranger than fiction. It is so hard to know any of this. I

have spent a lot of time sobbing over the GI miss in my son only to

realize this:

Based on healing, it seems my daughter's GI stuff was worse and I

totally missed that. I missed that because it was less obvious and I

believe her milk allergy was more subtle. Who knows, perhaps it hits

girls differently.

Even , whom I respect so much as a doctor and a mom expressed

that she wished she had pursued the GI aspect earlier. This thing that

hurts our kids is not obvious. There are lots of things that get in the

way to helping us help them and a lot of it is just life, not a big

conspiracy. At the end of the day I just have to do what I can so I can

honestly say to my kids that once I knew there was a problem I did

everything I could to help them...including the obvious...getting off

the computer and playing with them more. That is a work in progress.

Janice,

Don't kick yourself.

RSV is very contagious, and likely it was all over something in the

doctor's office.....exam table, waiting room,...some 18 mth old

teething can really spread germs in a doctor's office. Even a

coughing 6 or 12 year old can spread lots of germs. This happens all

the time. Take a healthy child to the doctor for vaccines and 3-5

days later that same healthy child comes down with something,

something they likely picked up in the doctor's office.

I had triplets 6 years ago. THeir first year they rarely went out(I

was terribly afraid of RSV), except to church and once or twice to

the grocery store. They ALWAYS got sick on a Wednesday (from the

germs they caught at church.) Their second year we made a couple more

trips to the grocery store. And guess what - if they didn't get sick

on a Wednesday, it was usually 3 days after the trip to the grocery

store.

From my experience, after my kids got their shots, their immune system just

seemed to be more compromised. It makes sense whatever they normally might have

fought off they got after the shots.

Plus, that infant tylenol they suggested giving right before the

vacc to " ease the discomfort of the child " didn't help. Another

toxin for the liver to deal with.

For what it is worth: every single time we've had to go visit the

pedi (sore throat, smashed finger, pink-eye, whatever) we've come

home with something MUCH worse than we went in for! Now; when we

are officially out of the building, I wash everyone's hands with

cleanser. When we get home, I rub down the steering wheel, window

buttons, door handles, whatever we may have touched in the car with

chlorox wipes or alcohol - whatever I've got handy. It has helped

cut down added illnesses.

Same deal here. I thank God we did not stay at the first

pediatrician...the one with a sick bay side and a well side. If you were

sick you wound up incubating. One visit and we left there for good.

All I can say about vaccinations is that I am thanking God tremendously for

putting it on my heart NOT to vaccinate my kids. I can only imagine the damage

that my neuro child would have had if he was vaxxed.

Hello

I don't know if this is the correct place to post this question, but...

my Kaiser pediatrician is trying to persuade me to give my teen

daughter a shot against Hepatitis (B or C--I don't know). She gave me

a paper saying that 2000 people/year get this disease. Sounds like a

pretty tiny ratio to me. But some of my colleagues say that it can

show up in pretty scary ways, contributing to some cancers, for

example. Can anyone give me a website that discusses Hepatitis in a

natural-holistic approach?

I completely mistrust Kaiser, have had horrific experiences with my

daughter there. I am freeing myself from them this year (woopee!), but

have to go through a doctor search.

Thank you for your help

Vaccines exist against both Hep A and B now. The thing is, viral

hepatitis is an infectious disease. I hate the way vaccines are given

to small children now, but I think they still have value when there's so

much potential to pass diseases between people due to overpopulation and

overcrowding. And while you may find holistic techniques for dealing

with the disease, you may inadvertently pass it on to someone who does

*not* know how to handle it holistically. That's pretty serious.

If it were me, and my daughter were a teenager, I might compile

information from both sides of the argument and let her read it and

decide for herself. She may not be age of majority yet but she's

getting old enough, I imagine, that she can start making some of her own

healthcare decisions. This is good practice for her and will help her

feel more empowered rather than having to resign herself to someone else

always making her healthcare choices for her, which wouldn't set such a

great pattern for the rest of her life.

With you on Kaiser though--I've heard bad things about them. Blecch.

However, from what I have heard, hep B is more likely to be passed back

and forth in unprotected sexual situations, and hepatitis in general's

more likely to be spread on college campuses and in similar situations

where there are a lot of different people in close proximity. That's

likely where most of those 2000 cases a year come from, and it stops

being a number when it starts being you. At the least, an alternative

to getting her vaccinated would be educating her in best practices to

avoid these diseases in the first place.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hepatitis_A -Does not cause permanent

damage, so I would consider the vaccine optional

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hepatitis_B -Can cause permanent damage and

lead to cancer; I would get this vaccine if I hadn't already

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hepatitis_C -No vaccine, also can cause

permanent damage.

General article about hepatitis: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hepatitis

Now, bear in mind that when they talk about blood-to-blood transmission,

they don't just mean sex. There are other situations in which even the

most virtuous, virginal person may find themselves at risk for catching

such a disease. Monitoring of the blood supply is not an absolute

preventative; blood tests all have the potential for false negatives.

Health care workers are at increased risk of catching blood-borne

diseases by sheer accident in the normal course of their duties, so if

your daughter aspires to be a medical provider of some type, this is

something to keep in mind. A medical employer would require her to

obtain the vaccination anyway if she wanted to work for them, so she

might as well get it out of the way now.

Google search for holistic + hepatitis:

http://www.google.com/search?q=holistic+hepatitis

Sorry to be so long-winded, hope some of this helps.

When looking at vaccines, you have to weigh the risks versus the

benefits. It's also important to evaluate the source of the

information - will they profit from their recommendation?

The risk of getting the disease in this case appears to be small and

would likely be even smaller for someone who doesn't have a lot of sex

partners and who doesn't engage in unprotected sex. The risk of

adverse side effects with any vaccine is not negligible, despite what

most vaccine literature proclaims. For more on possible side effects,

I posted about it here:

http://stay-healthy-enjoy-life.blogspot.com/2008/10/vaccine-overload.html

There is also the question of how effective is the vaccine? Most

vaccines are not as effective as the manufacturer would like you to

believe.

By keeping your immune system healthy, you should be able to reduce

your risk of getting infectious diseases and minimize the effects when

you do get sick. For optimizing the immune system, consider this

check list:

Thank you Dana and Kerry for all the very clear and useful info. I'll talk to my

dd, yes she's

getting old enough to be in on these decisions, but she still hates/dreads

shots!

That's good you aren't allowing your daughter to be vaccinated.

I don't recommend any vaccines of any kind for anyone! They are poisonous to
