Can you share your concerns about the breast surgery with us? Now I am dying

to know what is holding you back.

Hi .. well after much research I am VERY interested in getting silicone

implants. I hear they handle (feel), last and texture much better than

saline. However you can only get them if you go to a ps in a study for

silicone implants and if you qualify for a mastopexy (lift) due to severe

sagging. Now I know I qualify for that reason but I wanted to know if my ps

would do it. He is on vacation for 2 weeks and his nurse said it would have

to be something he consulted me about. As a rule he only did saline

implants.

Also when I went for my consultation I had no clue how implants were put in.

I didn't know that you can have them placed behind the breast itself over

the muscle. OR sub-pectorally. Again in my research I felt I'd have better

results with sub-pectoral and had no clue if he did it that way. His nurse

said yes he does ...

Also you can have textured or smooth implants, round implants or tear drop

shaped (anatomical) implants. Again he didn't mention any of these things to

me at the consult.

Now in his defense the nurse states that if after the consult you want to go

ahead with the surgery you go back, he does more formal measurements, takes

photos and goes into ALL these details to help you reach your goal.

However for me I would have liked to have known before. I don't want to be

wasting his or my time wondering what he can or cannot do. Still the nurse

said so many people come in for consults and then disappear that this way

works best for them.

Now at the time of my consult I didn't know anything about all these

choices. I did alot of research over the weekend and talked to a discussion

board with alot of post op patients who had breast augmentation, lifts, etc.

So since my ps is on vacation until Mid August and I'd still have to get in

to see him to find out exactly what I could have done. I put off my surgery

date because my deposit was only refundable up to 2 weeks before the surgery

date. Well if I didn't get to see him until Aug 17th like his office had

scheduled me for .. that would be over the 2 week refund period for my

surgery of Aug 28th and if I came away from that meeting decided to look for

another ps I would have been out $ 500.

So now I decided I will wait till he comes back, speak to him personally and

then go to another ps and check there too. Also there are different

manufacturers of implants .. I want to go with Mentor (he does use them) so

I've contacted Mentor to ask which ps in my area (nh/ma) that might be in

the study for the silicone implants.

Hope that makes sense but I figured if I'm going to do this and spend about

$ 8,500 I want to have done what I WANT so I won't be rushing into it.

I was very excited before but realized afterwards there was alot of info I

didn't have on hand at the time of my consultation.
