I just spent the last 30 minutes searching on the Faces of WLS WEbring, but I

did not find the webpage I was looking for. About a month ago, I came across

a website of a woman who had gone through gastric bypass surgery and then had

that extensive tummy tuck that lifted her buttocks too. I was trying to find

it because she had very explicit photos on her website and I remember the

proceedure being quite painful. I wish I could find it. I will continue to

look for it.

And it's very easy to get approved. I got approved last year for about

$8,000 worth of liposuction (which I never had cause I was told I needed to

loose weight first! Argh!) and my credit is far from good (Chapter 7 is

Thanks for sharing your story of the consult! Sounds awesome. I will be sending good wishes your way in hopes that you will be able to get both surgeries done soon!!! Sounds like a great experience that you had, I know I would be the same....wanting the surgery soon after having the consult! I really hope that it works out for you!!!

He immediately said amini tummy tuck was not best suited for me but rather a full - extendedtummy tuck where the incisions actually extend out past the hips and towardsthe back into the thigh area. He said this would pick up my rear thigh andbuttocks a bit while removing the 2" hang I have on the thighs that extendsfrom the tummy. He said I had zippo elasticity left in the stomach regionand didn't see it "snapping" back or improving any more than it already was... again no surprise. The nice part was that he said he could remove roughly90% of my massive stretch marks all except what is over my navel area. I'dbe given a new belly button.So all in all he thought I was an excellent candidate given my health, nonsmoking, drinking, age ..We talked about whether or not I could have both procedures done at once.Generally he does one and then the other but is not opposed to doing both. Iexplained I wanted only to go through one more surgery and recovery periodvs. two of them. I wasn't sure if I'd do it again next year after recoveringwhich is pretty much how I felt after my rny too .. lol. I was just DONE.His office staff and surgical nurse were super. He had a great personality.I loved his before/after pics .. and he came back in a 3rd time to answersome additional questions that came up that I had. He was very supportiveof the fact I had rny and had lost my weight and said he thought I lookedgreat (in clothes ha ha) and that I had come a long way and done a veryimportant thing for myself and he thought I'd be pleased with the results ofplastics.So that all said I was very excited. So much so I called & found out Icould have a surgery date as soon as Aug 28th. However I only havecurrently enough funds for either one or the other procedure. So what do Ido? Thanks everyone I had sent that email out to a few lists so I hope it wasn't

too general ..

Priscilla - I've heard " rumours " before about donating excess skin for burn

units, etc but I've never heard of anyone doing it and having plastics done

for free. In my case the skin being removed is majorly covered in stretch

marks so I doubt would make a good donation but you never know.

One thing I meant to say is that the plastic surgeon did NOT feel I was

going to be covered by ins. He said unless it was a pannectulectomy which is

a straight forward removal of the panus (hanging tummy apron) along with

problems such as rashes, smell, infection .. that it was highly unlikely

they would cover an abdominoplasty which was basically would give cosmetic

results.

As far as the breasts go again he said highly unlikely they would pay but he

would consider that more reconstructive/cosmetic only considering how much

tissue will be removed for the lift due to my " emptiness " and " droopiness "

(sorry guys).

Still one thing I liked about him was he said he certainly could write the

letters & have his financial manager submit it to the ins co... and see what

happens just not to hold my breath. So I said lets try but I realize I'm on

for this anyway.

Kim - No this isn't the surgeon at NWH .. this fellow's name is

Chatson and he has an office I believe in N.Andover MA and in Nashua NH

which is where I went. He operates out of St. ph's hospital in Nashua as

well as another hospital in Methuen MA .. I couldn't quite catch the name

but it was something like Holy Cross ... that would be the Aug 28th date for

that hospital. I believe I will cancel my consult with the other ps that I

had scheduled because this fellow truly did answer all my questions and I

felt enough at ease with him that if I was going to do this I'd go with him.

The surgeon at NWH was Dr. Loverme.

Total surgery time for both the mastopexy & abdominoplasty is estimated at 6

hours.

I should add some other things that I left out ...

There would be an overnight hospital stay. Observation is roughly 30 hours.

They do use the compression boots and stockings to minimize risks of blood

clots. He uses some internal and external stitches. A drain in the breast

would be there a few days depending on the level of fluid coming out and the

tummy roughly a week (I've heard this before & seen it go 3 weeks so we'll

see). I'd go back to see him I believe it was day 3 or 4 .. for an exam ..

after that I tuned out on the f/up schedule lol as I was still dreaming of

how I could get this done without taking up prostitution or selling my first

born ha ha.

No ng tube is req'd. I mentioned that due to the rny factor ..

If I do use him I have to put $500 down to reserve the operating suite and

pay in full 14 days prior to surgery.

Now for the cost. The prices below include cost of anesthesia, surgery,

hospital.

Bilateral mastopexy with augmentation (implants) would be $ 8500

Abdominoplasty $ 5700

Full extended abdominoplasty $ 8000 *

This procedure would include my side upper thighs/hips area and extend into

the back over the buttock region to lift the buttocks and side thighs/hips.

Would eliminate any side hang on the tummy missed by a regular

abdominoplasty.

$ 500 DISCOUNT for 2 surgeries. So basically $ 16,000 all in. The thing is I

have enough for ONE procedure at the moment. I'm going to look into

financing the rest because I'd really like to do both and be done. These

prices were in line with the plastic surgeon at NWH too.

Recovery time is roughly 2-3 weeks.

There I hope that is a bit more useful information.

abdominoplasty scar would extend around back by the hips but not so far back

as this woman into the buttock region. It DOES look painful in those pics ..

mine wouldn't be so bad (I hope!)

Amen to that Alice! I thought a 4" incision was bad enough---that

was NOTHING!...can't imagine being split from stem to stern like that!

After her abdominoplasty she discussed being unable to move 100% normally

even at 4 months post-op. Yipes! No thanks. I think unless

my extra skin causes more medical problems, that I'll stick with being

sharpei-like!

Oh gosh no not even close to that woman .. Yes I have hanging tummy &

breasts but nothing like her pannus or butt was. In fact I think my derriere

is fine just I do have one of those " grab 2 " " of flab on the outter

hips/thighs and in the tummy. I don't think you're in for a rude awakening

everyone is different. Hang in there I'm going to take before/after pics for

my website if I go through with it .. modesty be damned lol

I booked the surgery today slapped down the $ 500 deposit so things are

rolling for Aug 28th .... so we'll see what happens.

freaking out like being a pre-op again. Am I doing the right thing? Will

this be too drastic? Will I be happy with the results? etc etc. I KNOW in my

heart they can only improve on the current situation BUT .. you know those

mention pain? lol.

Wow, Lyssa, that seemed to come together very quickly! Congrats!

My mom had some surgery at Holy Family as she lives up there in Methuen.

The hospital has a good reputation, I believe. It's a community hospital,

and she did well there.

You've got a little more than a month to get prepared.......so, get

going! Again, congrats!

Sounds like your consult was very encouraging. Wow, by the time you are

done,you will really be a whole new person (and a much smaller one from a

year ago!). Just to toss is some unrequested advice, if I could do it, I'd

arrange for the financing so both procedures could be done at the same time.

Then, done is done. Who knows what the costs, your health, your family

situation, etc., etc. could be by the time you save for the second operation.

Obviously, they are both very important to you and, as long as the surgeon

is willing, having them both done together seems less stressful on your body

(one anesthesia, etc.). Of course it's your decision; I'm just putting in my

two cents worth. Whatever you decide, keep us posted.

I just wanted to let people know, I just went and looked at the pics on that site. That is no exageration. I had to have a modified abdominoplasty after a previous surgery caused problems. Do not take a tummy tuck decision lightly. It is a very big surgery. You definetely need a lot of help at home. I am not trying to scare anyone, I am also considering it myself now that I have lost weight. I just want you to be prepared. Mine looked exactly like that womens, but I came home with four JP drains. The pain meds that plastic surgeons use are wonderful. I could have easily got hooked. The plastice surgeon I had then I would definetely use again. Was recommended by many doctors to me at the time. Another doctor actually yelled at me for using such an expensive surgeon ( he has the highest rates in Mass.), but insurance was paying at the time and I was going to use the best. He is in Stoneham MA. His name is Gurmander Kohli. His nurses call him Commander Coty ( pronounced alike). For those interested he is on staff at LMH. Because this doctor was out of the network I had at the time, the insurance needed to be preapproved and I didn't know they had only approved 48 hours in hospital. NOT ENOUGH TIME FOR THIS SURGERY!!!! I had to be readdmitted the next day. And she is right, needing blood after this surgery is not uncommon. Just look at the size of the incision, you will lose alot of blood. My incision was 36 inches and 150 staples and 4 drains, not fun.

Just want you to be prepared.

Oh yes I realize the scar is extensive and definitely a major surgery. I'm just saying my scar/body type is not the same as that lady's website. 1) I don't have that much skin to have removed compared to her. I know my scar will be longer than a regular abdominoplasty because they are extending it either side of me to pull up my outter thighs and butt. But (lol) I am not having a butt lift like she did that had the scar continue fully back ..

I'm hoping that I can recover quickly if my rny recovery is any indication but I am prepared for a slow one too. Luckily my kids will be back in school. My dh is taking a week off and then can work from home as much as possible to help me out.

I'm very excited and have been researching this since last Nov. I also anticipate a bit longer recovery considering I'm having the mastopexy done at the same time. Mainly I didn't want to have to undergo another major surgery next year.

Thanks for your input and reflections its great to hear from someone who has been through it.

Good luck with your own consults. I'm glad you found a ps that you are comfortable with. I have a long list of questions I've started for my ps again when I see him next.

Right now I am scheduled with Dr. Chatson out of Nashua. I do however

have another consult on the 25th. At first I wasn't going to keep it but

after spending most of my weekend doing research on plastic surgery

specifically the breast surgery I have a lot of new questions for my ps. If

he is unable to answer them or doesn't offer what I am thinking about now ..

I will continue on to the next surgeon. I was just excited about the aug

28th date and nabbed it while I could.

That reminds me to give his office a call when they open.
