I started at that point too, mostly because I have a young son and don't want him to be without a mommy. But, gradually, through this group, and other sources, I realized that it's a generally safe procedure. That doesn't mean that no one ever dies or has complications, but overall, it seems to be fairly safe, and it WORKS, which was a major selling point for me. Others are right when they say a lot of people who have problems are people who don't take care of themselves afterwards. However, there's a guy in our community who had the procedure and had constant nausea afterwards until they had to reverse it. He's still a lot thinner than he was before and none the worse for wear. There are also people who die of blood clots after surgery, but that's true for any procedure. Heck, you can take an aspirin and if your system can't handle it you could die of that, too. I guess you have to ask yourself what's more important: taking a risk, or living the rest of your life the way you are now. When I thought about it that way, my choice seemed pretty simple. I really don't want to be like I am now, and I'm willing to take a small risk to make my life better.
