I have not quite kept up to date with all the posts recently, and i

couldn't find this on the archives so apologies if i've missed it.

I got a message from my doctor yesterday that the results of a bone

scan i had show low density. I assume this = osteoporosis rather

than anything else. He said I needed to take a drug 1/7 called

risedronate.

I was just wondering if this is due to the liver rather than UC.

Also if you have a liver tx, does the osteoperosis get better. ( I

know the UC doesn't).

Anyway any comments gratefully received.

Happy St. s day!

Tim,

I have osteopenia (and osteoporosis in my left shoulder and arm). I take about 1500 mg calcium a day. Osteoporosis is a problem with psc, but UC can aggravate the condition. Some advice that I have been given. Excercise regularly, keep your weight up, and take the supplements. low bone density will continue to be a problem post transplant because of the prednisone you will have to take. Hi Tim,

The osteoporosis follows from the liver disease. The steroids given after

the tx make it a lot worse for a while but then it gets better. Do

everything you can to improve bone density pre-transplant.

Good luck, Colin B.
