Guest guest
Hi Kris, I haven't read the Atkins book, though I want to someday just out of curiosity and for comparison's sake, so I don't know a lot about Atkins other than what I've picked up from others who are on it. From what I do know though, I wouldn't think you would have to start on Phase 1 of South Beach. Following Atkins you are already used to a very low carb lifestyle, probably lower than what SB allows even on Phase 1 and certainly by Phases 2 and 3. Can I be nosey and ask, why are you switching to SB? I'm just curious. The main differences I see between the two, and like I said I haven't read the Atkins book, is that SB uses reduced fat dairy products (though not fat free in most cases) and allows some veggies Atkins doesn't. But really, that's about all the difference I see, other than Atkins counts carbs and SB uses an allowed food list rather than counting carbs, calories or fat. I was actually surprised, after reading the SB book and starting the diet, when I did some reading online about Atkins and discovered just how similar the diets are. Good luck with South Beach. I hope it works for you. e Sheehan wrote: I just read the interview with SB creator on WebMD. It left me with a question. Since I've been on Atkins for so long, I really don't have the cravings that the 1st Phase is to get rid of. Should I start on Phase 2 or go ahead & do two weeks of Phase 1? Thanks! Guest guest
Looking at the allowed food groups in Phase 2, there's a BUNCH of yummy yummy yummy stuff on there you cannot have on Atkins. Basically I just feel like crap still and am looking for my magic bullet. bottom line! Guest guest
Kris, from reading your earlier message you have a number of health issues that are certainly contributing to how you feel regardless of which diet you're on. Unfortunately there isn't a magic bullet to feel better instantly though certainly a healthy diet will be good for you, and for all of us, both short term and long term. Some of the stock answers people usually get to feeling bad, especially in the beginning of a low carb diet, are to drink plenty of water which is something I'm sure you already know. Good luck and hope you feel better soon. aakrisatwork wrote: Looking at the allowed food groups in Phase 2, there's a BUNCH of yummy yummy yummy stuff on there you cannot have on Atkins. Guest guest
I also think another big difference is the fat. On Atkins you have unlimited mounts of fat I think.... -Beth-- Original Message ----- From: MTGirl To: South-Beach-Diet-Getting-It-Right Sent: Thursday, November 04, 2004 10:08 AM Subject: Re: Converting from Atkins P.S. Guest guest
I know that they use butter, whipping creme, regular cheese. I guess saying that Atkins is higher fat and lower carb than SB is probably a fair assessment. I know someone following Somersizing and that program is high fat too, though it didn't start out that way. SB has been working great for me but following it has just made me curious about some of the others out there. I assume they were lacking something or SB wouldn't be so popular. One of my family members is at risk for diabetes and has heart disease but his doctor is still preaching low fat to him. Just makes you want to get in the middle of it sometimes but you can't convince somebody of something they don't want to hear. -Beth wrote: I also think another big difference is the fat.
