Guest guest
- Kathy, You will find information on Social Security Disability on the Social Security website at www.ssa.gov Use the drop down menu to go to " disability " . You can also ask any question on line and receive an answer. If your children qualify for SSI, they would most likely also qualify for a number of state programs. What state are you in? Contact the state office of health and human services ( they will have a website with their numbers and contact information) and make an appointment to come in and speak to them about what other state programs you and you children may qualify for. Do you have private insurance. If so, check your policies for waiver of premium or disability clauses. The same would apply to any 401(K) or other qualified plan your husband has been participating in . Let me know if I can help you. Guest guest
Thanks, Tee. I surfed the site but can't find an answer to my question: Why would our children qualify for SS benefits? All the information I found on the website was concerning the child's disability - not my husband's. I was wrong about the date of the interview -- it's NEXT Thursday. Thanks, Kathy wife of Lonnie ltx 6/2/04 > - > Kathy, > You will find information on Social Security Disability on the > Social Security website at www.ssa.gov
Guest guest
Kathy, I think what they meant when they said that the children would qualify for benefits was that if you husband qualified for SSI, they could qualify the children for other federal and state sponsored programs. That's why I mentioned the state programs. I would also contact your state dept of health and hospitals and ask about their programs for children who qualify. Do check any benefits you have for disability provisions. Guest guest
Kathy, My Mom has been on disability for years - the permanent kind that you get from Social Security when there is no hope of you ever going back to work (she's older and has a multitude of health problems). Anyway, until my brother turned 18, social security sent her a check for him as well. This was supposed to help support him since he had a parent who was on SSDI. I know you mentioned that it was SSI or something your husband had gotten, but I'm guessing that Social Security has a similar " child support " type program for that, too. Hope this helps!
