Guest guest
Hello Please don't feel guilty for your son's headshape. You have done nothing but seek treatment for him. Is there anyway you can get him back into another band? CT still bands babies your son's age, and even though correction might be limited there are plenty of older children on our site that have received really good correction, and the parents are glad that they still went ahead at this age. I believe , 's son was 17mos if I'm not mistaken. If you go to the DOC before and after there are a few older kids, and you can see how much success they have had. I'm sure if your insurance approved band#2 back then, that they might approve it again. Your ped could write up a letter for you. The only thing is that your time is limited, and you would have to get started now. As of the tolerating the band. I really can't say much for the age group your son is in, b/c I don't know. I would think though if you decorated it as one of " his " superheros that he might even be proud of it. You will find tons of support here. If you aren't considering another band then know that you always have a ton of open ears around here. Vent as much as you need. That is what we are here for. Guest guest
Hi Before we even think about headshape, I think you deserve congratulations- you've done a brilliant job lately as a mum, and don't you forget it! You've got your little one up and about walking and running, which is absolutely wonderful and really the top priority in all of this. It is really hard, though, when we do everything we can, and the results just don't match our expectations. I guess most people here are in that situation to one extent or another, as even if you get good correction, most plagio mums with their experienced eye can still spot those defects where the ears aren't quite lined up or whatever. I know I can with Lucia, as her teeth are still a bit misaligned after great headshape correction, and like all good mums, I blame myself entirely! Others of us started late with the bands, and have to come to terms with the fact that they won't get perfect correction due to age. I guess the question for you is 'is Ian's headshape good enough?' (not perfect, as it is probably a bit unrealistic to hope for that) and, if it isn't good enough, is it possible to do something about it? There is the option of a second band as Ian is not too old and if you really feel his headshape is horrible, I think it might be worth thinking about this. However, only you know if you are just having a bad day over this where you blame yourself for everything (and everyone has those), or whether in fact this dissatisfaction is so great you would like to do something about it. Would it help to post some more recent pictures after the 5 months of banding? I think everyone here is pretty honest, and if it was a mild flat spot and you are just beating yourself up, we would say so, equally,if it looks like something that could benefit from further treatment,we would also be honest. What did CT think at the end of treatment? If my calculations are correct, he was in a band from seven/eight months old til a year, - and you would have expected to get pretty good correction at that age. Good luck with this- I hope you give yourself a nice treat today and remember that you have done an awful lot for Ian, and he will know this (children know when they are well-cared for and looked after!) Guest guest
Gosh , I'm SO sorry to hear how disappointed you are. I honestly think if you're still so upset about this months later you need to get him in another band ASAP. I think you will regret it if you don't. At 16 mos he's not too old to see results from a DOCband. Hannah's third band was worn for 16wks starting at 15.5 mos and had very obvious correction that I'm very happy with. Please check out her new website at: http://hannahsnoggin.typepad.com/hannahs_noggin/ where you can read her story of the third band and see her progress pictures from that third band. I'm SOOO glad we did it! Please keep us posted. , mom to Hannah, DOCgrad Cape Cod, Ma > > Hi- > I have not posted anything for ages. Guest guest
, it sounds like you may want to at least get another re- evaluation by CT to see where he stands. Get another objective point of view. I would also LOVE to see current pics of his head at the different angles. Pictures really help me see improvements (of my son) that are just too hard to detect on a day-to-day basis. I don't mean to discount your feelings *at* *all*, but it is possible that you are scrutinizing his headshape more than most people would. Please let me know how you feel about everything you've heard from us. I only mean to be supportive and not hurtful in any way. Sue Colin F., 13 mos.
