sometimes to get a PCP to make referrals. Some of it depends on the

insurance company, the policy itself, even the state you're in.

Maureen is right alot depends on your insurance company. I belong

to an HMO and yes the referral process is a hassle. But my HMO has

been wonderful. I had my transplant in 97 and they paid 100% of the

cost and didn't have any problems getting them to approve. My PSC

has attacked my new liver and I need a second transplant. My

transplant center submitted the information to my HMO and they

approved the second transplant within a few days.

I have Priority Health, It is a local HMO in the Grand Rapids

Michigan area, it is my coverage through work.
