Guest guest
> health maintenance organizations (HMOs) i consider the near bottom of the insurance totem pole, but with the PPO we had, gosh, you'd think we had an HMO or something. ...it was a massive inconvenience sometimes to get a PCP to make referrals. Some of it depends on the insurance company, the policy itself, even the state you're in. Maureen is right alot depends on your insurance company. I belong to an HMO and yes the referral process is a hassle. But my HMO has been wonderful. I had my transplant in 97 and they paid 100% of the cost and didn't have any problems getting them to approve. My PSC has attacked my new liver and I need a second transplant. My transplant center submitted the information to my HMO and they approved the second transplant within a few days.
